Front Range Denver/ Boulder weekend campsites

Hi all,
Does anyone have any close in campsite suggestions for weekend getaways from Denver? I would like to stay within a two hour drive from home. The popular state and national parks are booked months in advance. Hookups not required.
Thanks in advance!
Chuck

Olive Ridge Campground on Hwy 7 near Allenspark is a real gem. It is just a mile or so south of the Wild Basin entrance to RMNP and the Wild Basin hike is beautifull. Also an easy drive from there to Estes Park. It is a National Forest campground with vault toilets and no hookups but there is water available at central locations.. A few good restaurants in Allenspark also. It fills up on weekends but many sites are open during the week. Some reserved and some first come first served.

Olive Ridge is a good suggestion. Boulder County Fairgrounds is more like a Walmart parking lot than a campground. It would be a good choice for a quick stopover if you were on the road passing through, but not a good choice for a "weekend getaway," IMHO.

Best by far: Clear Creek RV Park, owned by City of Golden. Downtown Golden, walk everywhere!

Just make reservations 60 days in advance.

We stop at this park every trip we make out west.
