Haynes Point Provincial Park, Osoyoos BC

We are camping at Haynes Point right now. When we arrived the host told us that after October 1 this year Haynes Point will be closed until further notice. Here is an article which explains the situation:

OIB, B.C. reach agreement on Haynes burial site - Osoyoos Times

A new washroom was being installed at the park and some bones were discovered, which apparently the Osoyoos Indian Band (OIB) believe are from their ancestors. The agreement between the provincial government and the OIB seems to indicate an uncertain future for Haynes Point.

We have camped at Haynes Point many times and believe it is one of the best campsites in BC. It would be a shame if it was no longer available to the camping public!

That is unfortunate, but this is a sensitive issue for the native people. Hopefully a full resolve happens soon.

Update on Haynes Point Provincial Park

On May 23 the provincial government announced a change in names for Haynes Point Provincial Park and Okanagan Falls Provincial Park. Here is a link:

Province makes Friday afternoon announcement of aboriginal names for Haynes Point, Okanagan Falls parks - Osoyoos Times - Osoyoos Times

The parks will continue to operate and be managed by the Osoyoos Indian Band.

Camping at sẁiẁs (Haynes Point) June 8 - 12 2015

We just returned from four nights at this favourite park and really enjoyed ourselves. It is now managed by the Osoyoos Indian Band, the same organization that manages Nk'Mip. While weather was hot, there was still lots to see and do. We were impressed on how well the park is running under new management. Here are a few photos from our trip. https://www.flickr.com/photos/brian_...57654455044246

Hi Brian thanks for your post.

We are noticing that almost the entire CG is booked for some dates is Sept except for certain sites which have a comment that campers may get toilet smells. The CG map shows that the CG is quite small and we don't want to get stuck smelling toilets for three nights in a hot climate.

Am I being too picky?
Any comments would be appreciated.

Larry

Larry and Liz

I have sent you a private message.

Sẁiẁs is a popular campsite, so you need to plan ahead and be patient if you want to stay there.

As you say, there are few reservations open for this year, and going without reservations after September 12 is not recommended.

You best strategy might be to plan for next year.
