Insignificance
A photo taken of our Escape 21 in Red Willow county Nebraska a couple weeks ago. I call it “Indignifigance”
I like the feeling of openness I get when I’m in big country.
Have a great weekend.

I lied
I gassed up in Red Willow county before we got to where we wanted to camp. The camp was at the Harlan County Reservoir and the reservoir is a corps of engineers operated park. There are shady spots and open sites. We chose to be out by the water to pick up a little solar and to be able to see across the reservoir. It was not crowded at all. Restrooms and showers were very very clean, I had wanted to camp there a few years back but weather radar showed a very large thunderstorm crossing that area, so we stayed north and west of there and missed the hail and lightning. The camp host told me that they get huge boating and camping crowds on the weekends but on a Wednesday night, not so much, especially with summer winding down. I prefer state and county highways especially when I’m not in a hurry which is most of the time. Glad you liked the picture.

We'll have to check it out when head that way sometime.
I know what you mean by feeling insignificant. I felt that way the first time I backpacked into the Grand Canyon back in the 70's and every time I did after that until I left AZ. in the mid-80's. Danny Glover sums it up perfectly in the movie coincidently called "Grand Canyon":
"You feel like a gnat on the a$$ of a cow chewing it's cud on the side of an eight lane interstate with cars going by at 70mph." That may not be a perfect quote but is was something like that.

Cloud appreciation
Those look like mammatus rain clouds in your photo.
A local band, Free Hot Lunch, has a song with lyrics "I'd hate to wake up sober in Nebraska".
I trust you didn't.
Driving thru Nebraska, some say, is like driving thru North Dakota....twice.
I wouldn't know, as I've not yet been thru North Dakota.
Happy trails.

I’ve driven all the Great Plains States several times and also Montana all the way across on highway 2. Probably 25 times across Nebraska and 30 or so for South Dakota. North Dakota 4 times Kansas 4 times.
Can’t get enough of big country, stopping in little towns for ice cream, seeing real cowboys working cattle with horses, and coyotes about sunset. Pasty Montana’s sentiments from a 1934 song that she wrote. Tap the link above, Patsy will
sing for you.

15 years 45 miles from the nearest traffic light, population density less than 2 people per square mile, sunrises over the Beartooths and sunsets over the Crazies. 12 miles to town and I knew everybody between my place and town. "Died and gone Heaven?" I've already been there.

There's a photo thread on the IRV site entitled something like, small rv in a big landscape. Yours would fit right in. Good picture.

Hi, no that's Valley of the Gods. Now I have done the Shafer Trail (won't do that again) off the rim down to where it splits to the White Rim and a couple of miles on the trail. I'll try to add a couple of pictures of the Shafer Trail off the rim.

Nice. Can’t remember how many times I’ve done the White Rim going in at Potash and out on Horse Thief. Of course I did it each time on a hopped up Kawasaki 650 enduro. Easy peasy.

Find the insignificant travel trailer here in Cornerbrook, Newfoundland. Excellent boondock.

Lovely country. We had planned to go there this past spring but medical issues prevented it. We're now hoping for the fall.
What time of year was the photo taken?

That photo was taken on June 28, 2022. June is generally the best iceberg viewing month, but in 2022 there were virtually no icebergs - almost unheard of. Even with no icebergs It was great visiting Newfoundland.

Valley of the Gods was October 2022. The Shafer Trail was November 2020. My location in Valley of the Gods was on the West side. It's rough getting in and out on that side. I wouldn't do it again. I would recommend the east entrance. That's not bad. Did Goosenecks which is near Valley of the Gods first of July 2019. I'm not going back in the summer.
Had to cancel my 2021 trip because of health issues.

Thank you. We're thinking mid-September to mid-October. We're hoping it will be as deserted as it looks in your photo.
