"Zen" looks nose down to me, could be the background.
Is he kneeling to the East in the morning sun?

Photographer's error. I should straighten it up, cause you're right, her nose looks to be down. She really is level. There!

Good catch Harley!

Thanks for the information on slot canyons. We’re going to Goblin Valley in April and I hope it isn’t raining!

Thia is why you don't go in when it's raining.

August is monsoon season, watch for that.

The problem is that it can be raining 50 miles away, unknown, and the chasms fillip with rushing rain water.........

Uncle Tim, thanks for posting the vid of the slot canyon escape. Those folks had no idea of what danger they were in. We were on a raft trip through the Grand Canyon and had the opportunity to explore several slot canyons. The precautions our guides took before we were allowed to go in were impressive. They included hourly satellite weather checks, as well as conversations with trusted observers on the rim of the canyon regarding current weather condition at the upper reaches of the watersheds the slot canyons were in. Torrents of water can come down in beautiful, dry conditions due to monsoon rains occurring many miles away and out of the hiker's sight or awareness.

Spring and early summer are the safest times, later in the season is definitely a crap shoot.

On the other hand the experience is spectacularly unlike any other in the natural world. You don't want to miss it if you get the chance to explore a slot canyon. Just be aware of the risk.

Both you guys made the point I failed to make. It can be raining so far away you cannot even tell when you enter one. Cannot be overstated.

AND the wall of water can and does get over one's head. Which means killer hydraulics long before that level arrives. We always check the weather conditions before heading in, and only go in during the dry months.

UT,
One model shows 91" of snow for Estes Park between now and Sunday night, are you prepared?
Joel Gratez of Open Snow says 90" for Eldora, how far are you from that ski area?
Might see the rare Red Rocks ski area open?
Hunker down!

Yeah, we're ready. I'm gonna start a double batch of chicken soup tomorrow. Just got back from Costco. Plenty of beer and wine.

Blew out the fresh water tank and emptied the others.

X-country skis and hiking boots ready to go.

Bring it! You ready?

Always, we lived in Silverthorne for 23 years, saw some at least this big. I recall, maybe 1995, running the snow blower to clear my driveway 3 times in one day. Right after new years day. We had a foot or more every day that week for 7 days in a row.

We were in Utahs' San Rafael Swell this weekend. Dry, dusty, and crowded! So..we eased over to a quieter location. The mountains in the background are the Henry Mtns. We're parked on the Moenkopi Formation. Those reddish cliffs are the Kayenta, Wingate, and Navaho, wind deposited sandstone. We saw three other vehicles in 48 hrs. Much better than the Swell!

So where did you end up? Do tell.

We're hoping to head down there soon - were planning on boon'ing Temple Mountain, Buckhorn Draw, Horseshoe Canyon, and Hanksville areas - is that where you found the crowds? Hope not!

In any case, we got lucky and have reservations for 4 nights on the White Rim Trail in Canyonlands - minus the trailer of course - can't hardly wait for that!

Did a quick two-week trip through Monument Valley, Arches, Canyonlands/Dead Horse, Bryce and Zion the end of March. Snow/hail in M.V., sun in Moab and Zion area so all went well (except for the frozen water hose near Zion ). Booked a tour outside of Zion where they took us to some 'hidden' slot canyons -- didn't go in too far but they were certainly impressive and our guide did say they watch the weather very closely.
