Ohio State Parks Reopening

Ohio State Park website is taking reservations starting June 1, 2020.

DeWine: State parks reopening, Ohioans able to go camping soon

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WJW) — Ohio’s state parks are reopening and Governor Mike DeWine says “there’s no reason people should not be able to camp” in the near future.

Official guidelines regarding camping will be released in the next few days.

DeWine reiterates that Ohioans need to be careful in groupings so he expects there may be campgrounds that open, but keep common areas closed.

We have a camping trip planned for July with our eldest daughter and her family at a local county park . One of the issues we’ve encountered is that the common areas ( bathrooms , showers , playgrounds , drinking fountains , pavilions and beaches ) may / will be closed / locked . This will require anyone wishing to camp at the park to have a trailer with a bathroom
( No tents or trailers without self contained sanitary facilities)
Not a problem for us with our Escape but our daughter’s family camps in a tent which would not be allowed , so right now our annual camping trip is on hold .
Hopefully they will come up with a solution so that everyone can utilize the parks and not just those of us lucky enough to own / afford a trailer

What about tents with a porta-pottie?

I assume the park is just trying not to swap one health hazard for another and the easiest solution was to just mandate self contained camping units

This company has been doing business for some time around here. At first when I would see 4-5 trailers set up at some local State Park campgrounds I had a somewhat negative view of them. I thought why are they letting a private company take campsites and profit off it- yet came to realize they provide people the experience we all do without having to make a significant investment in an RV.

Am seeing more campgrounds opening with conditions Steve mentions above- must be self contained. Won't be surprised to see more of these companies sprout up as a result.

I have been canceled 3x by the Texas state parks. I made a reservation for a COE for 5/15 and it got canceled the next day but 2 days later I got an email telling me to log in at 4pm and I could reserve from 5/20 forward. I am on a notification list for Texas state parks and will continue to monitor Federal land camping. It’s gonna require someone effort to camp this summer and hopefully Texas will start to open up and the department of Interior will allow federal parks to reopen for camping also.

Hello Steve,
Is there a possibility that your bathroom could be considered their facilities, if they are camped with you or right next to you? If yes, then it could be a solution (if you are OK with the traffic into your camper...).
Best wishes,
