Pretty amazing. I wind up in California quite a bit on business and have been all over the state. No more than a year ago those reservoirs were way down, drought in full swing, everything parched. The turn from drought to flood was dramatic. I heard in this case the reason for the flooding in Kingsland and other areas along the river was because the Pine Flat reservoir (along with all the other ones) was filled to the brim, and they were forced to release. Funny thing is that downstream folks are usually warned of an imminent release, so they should have had time to leave before the water rose.

Yes, when we were there in 2015, the river and lake were dry, as was most of the central valley, but this winter was a good one for the Sierra snow pack.

It is a continuing issue presently.
On our way back from the Escape rally in Osoyoos, we met up with friends and went fishing in the Sierras. We were just below 9000 ft., and were at the edge of the remaining snowpack (June 1-2). Streams downstream of any lake that was drainable were running full and fast: they were moving as much water downstream as possible to make way for the snowmelt from 9000 to 14000 ft. That's what's happening now.
