Its been cold here in Nebraska.... So I was looking out my window at the snow falling and wistfully thinking of spring and camping. I noticed a brown icicle hanging from my black tank dump valve. Went out to investigate and it appears I have a leak at the seal / slide mechanism. I ordered a replacement online. This appears to be a direct replacement for the Lasalle-Bristol that Escape installed (https://bit.ly/2TP0f1r.
Wondering if anyone has had this happen and how the replacement went. Doesn't seem to be much clearance to get the new valve and seals in.
I'll be sure to dump in even more antifreeze to black tank next year to prevent it happening.

I leave the black and gray tank drain valves open all winter with a bucket under the drain spout to catch any drips . Closing the valves is an invitation to trapping water and valve damage from freezing .
Removing / Replacing the drain valves is an easy task . I take mine out every Spring , clean the valves and apply lubricant to the seals and moving valve parts .
It was empty, but evidently not empty enough I poured some anti-freeze into the black tank when I winterized (maybe a quart). This worked for 1st two winters but not this one. I will try Steve's suggestion next winter.

How do you keep critters out with the open valves or do you use the small hose adapter?

"Keeps waste tank dry and odor free" I can agree with dry but not so sure about 'odor free.' Those holes look big enough for ants too. Would ants be attracted?
Instead maybe something like this. It's offered through Little House Customs, but I'm betting someone with some ingenuity to make their own. And the screening is small enough bugs can't get in.

I just shove a cheap Dollar Store Coarse SS scrubbee in the drain opening to keep mice out
I don’t worry about insects cause it’s winter , you would be surprised what 2 or 3 ft of snow and 30 below does for the insects !!
