Awning maintenance

There have been questions about what to use to clean the awnings. So I thought some might be interested in this document from Carefree about maintaining the awning.

Carmel, Thank you for this info. I have a Carefree Awning on my 2013 Escape and the stitching seam where it attaches to the trailer leaks through the threading, dribbling down the outside wall. Not very helpful in rainy weather. I don't want to replace the whole awning, too much money. Is there a seam tape that you have heard of or other sealant?
Thank you

I have always thought that awnings were for shade, not water protection...?

If you lived in the lower mainland of B.C. you would know that awnings are for protection from rain. There is no such thing as sun.

That may be true, but the manufacturer states their product is for shade...

Seam sealer

I've used this brand and found it to be very durable and effective on outdoor gear.

Widely available. It is a urethane compound, takes a good long while to fully cure, but worth the wait.

Most any sporting goods store that sells tents will have a seam sealant similar to that mentioned in the previous post. I hope you enjoy rainy-day lounging and dining under your awning as much as I have over my decades of RVing

I'm sorry, I don't.

Our 2014 awning was showing signs of wear right next to the trailer at the mounting channel. I found this tape and applied it a couple years ago and it have been working great, definitely extending the life of the awning. I bought the white, 6" wide and applied two strips along the top edge. Make sure you are lined up before you remove the backing paper, once stuck it is not coming off
