Lol, bet they were grossed out after looking at that filthy area. Probably afraid to even touch the caps.

Neither is what you see in the photo.

Seems the simplest nomenclature they could have used would be to call it the battery switch labeled "connected" or "disconnected"

Not what they could steal, but rather the vandalism they could do. Kinda like someone putting sugar in the gas tank of a car. Nowdays they are all locked in one way or another.

Keeps small children out of trouble mostly.

Preventing theft, vandalism and in some cases self inflicted damage is for me a way of thinking after having experienced many situations over the years. In the case of vandalism, which is often heavy in some public property cases, I learned to think like a vandal, prepare for the worst, and go one thickness thicker no matter what the material. Just had to figure out how to pay for it in initial construction or remodeling projects.

As park maintenance folks met at conferences, the end of day conversations as we repaired to the bar often turned to “can you top this? Smaller town guys were upstaged by small city guys. Larger cities would top small cities. But when I sat at tables with the guys from Chicago, Detroit, Cleveland and the like, I was ( and you don’t have to believe this: very quiet). Those folks described whole new levels of abuse. I learned that trends in vandalism moved inward from borh coasts and from big cities to smaller ones. If you listened carefully you could learn to anticipate and shift budget money to thicker plate steel, high impact light fixtures, and less flammable materials.

btw, grrr to whomever put those 'battery' pictures on those knobs, with the terminals 'down' unless you mount the switch with the 'green' on the bottom instead of the top (and then the words OFF and ON are upside down).

My Casita has a locking cover on the inlet to the fresh-water tank, but not on the city-water inlet. I've no idea why.

Perhaps someone was concerned about an undesirable addition being placed in his water supply. Gravity would do that. But on the city water supply it would be more difficult and need pressure to drive other liquids into your system.
Who knows.

Nor I, but a cheap Harbor Frieght screwdriver would do the trick.
What I look at is, will this security device cost me more because of the damage done to defeat it?

FWIW, my Escape has no locking cover over either water input, they are side by side. I don't remember what my Casita had, but iIRC< it was similar. And, the Casita had a locking hatch over the 'cave' that the captive power cord was stored in, while my Escape simply has a NEMA L5-30R with a flap (but the detachable cord is stored in the front locking cargo bin)

Damage being greater than the loss has been a problem for a long time. When my dad and I locked up the service station at night, dad would clean all of the bills and half dollars out of the cash register and put them in an old canvas bag. He would leave the cash drawer open so if a break-in occurred the burglars wouldn’t pry the cash drawer open causing damage. In the little office back room was a stout safe. It was not locked, just closed and contained about $20 in coins, mostly pennies and nickels in a bank bag. The bills and halves were put in an old canvas bag and stuffed in the bottom storage area of the wheel balancer behind part of the apparatus used to set up the balancer. Never lost anything but candy bars and a little change when we did get burglarized. “Don’t make it hard for them” dad would say, “They aren’t that smart”. I would rather deal with replacing what’s in my front box than fixing broken fiberglass, probably shouldn’t lock it either.

Years ago a park district was sued when thieves attempted to steal a pop machine. It got away from them when they tipped it to slide it into their pickup and crushed one of them…….Dead

Yes, legal irony. Your client was committing a crime but got hurt and it was your fault?? Who said justice prevails

I'd suggest removing the word "disconnect" from the label. It only adds confusion. Does it mean anything different than "battery on" or "battery off"?
