Brake Adjustments 17b

I have a 2017. 17b. I'm not original owner. I've never adjusted the trailer brakes but have had them checked. Is this an easy task for a non mechanic or should I take to RV tech ? Or to automotive garage OK ?

If it were me with a 4-5 year old trailer (especially 2nd owner) I would adjust the brakes after repacking the wheel bearings. That way you get to see what condition the brake shoes are in.

The adjustment isn't hard- and neither is the bearing re-pack. Plenty of YouTube videos out there. Think of it as a beginning of honing some basic RV MacGyver skills!

If you get stuck you can post a couple pictures and someone will help you. Make sure you use jack stands and not just the jack especially if you decide to pull the wheel and access the bearings. Do one side at a time .

Absolutely. And consider keeping the trailer hitched to the tow vehicle, with the latter in Park (if applicable) and with the parking/emergency brake firmly applied. That way you know the trailer can’t go forward or backward or pivot around the axle.

Salis populi suprema lex
That’s what I lived by for my 32 years in public parks and recreation. Eventually I was smart enough to adopt it for myself.
