Cleaning dirt/mildew from awning

Hi everyone. The underside of our awning is very dirty. What product(s) would you recommend to use when cleaning? Any experiences of things not to do...??

I used Scrubbing Bubbles, which contains bleach. Destroyed my T-shirt and hat. Not sure what damage it did to the awning as I rinsed it quickly and thoroughly. There is a label on the awning and instructions that say to use only soap and water and a soft brush.

Over the years I've used Simple Green, pour a qt or so in a pump sprayer, spray both surfaces, roll it up, wait 5 min or so, unroll, light scrubbing with a truck brush, hose off.

Last year being out of Simple Green I used my wife's spray bottles of mold and mildew remover, it worked fine, better then Simple Green. Bought a gallon of mold and mildew killer from HD thinking it would be the same thing, it got rid of about 1/2 of it. The former must be concentrated.

Just bought another gallon of Simple Green.

I've also noticed my awnings stitching is starting to fall apart, maybe rotting. it's 7 years old. Don't know what the normal life span is.

Mine is 12 years old and stitching looks fine. Soap and water.

My mantra is if I can not pronounce it I do not use it....you are right, some of that stuff may be the culprit.

It might be that you just need to dilute it which is recommended for light and moderate cleaning.
