What is best way to dehumidify in storage if you can plug-in?

I'd ask, indoors or outdoors? Vent open or not?
If indoors, I'd open a vent a crack and add some heat. All you need is a couple 60 watt bulbs to warm the air so that it holds more water and rises up and out the vent.
Outdoors, I use a couple Dri-Z-Air containers with generic crystals. I empty the containers every two or three weeks.
All cupboards and drawers are open or ajar. Cushions on end.

I’ve been mulling using a dehumidifier that I have sitting in the basement and leaving it in the trailer so that rather than using its built in tank, it drains out of the hose fitting in the back into the trailer’s shower drain. All I’d need to do would be to pull the gray tank release periodically (maybe once a month while in storage). Anyone tried something like this? Seems like it would be simple and effective.

I tried the desiccant ones one winter. Went out to see if they needed to be emptied and found them frozen solid, they stayed that way for the rest of the winter. Live and learn.

Fortunately Bryce lives in a temperate climate, as do I. I've used the brand Dri-Z-Air crystals in both my trailers for years. Never had a freezing problem yet.

There is an ongoing thread on FGRV at the moment. I would recommend you check it out.

Direct link: Anyone use a dehumidifier during off-season?

Get along with them well. I should have added that my house came with a sewer connection in the driveway.

Yes. We are only a 1/4 mile from the Puget Sound which moderates things considerably and have a hard freeze only every few years. With Covid, hoping to be opportunistic about winter camping--I'm kind of planning to winterize everything (but possibly the gray tank with the dehumidifier option), leave the trailer in the driveway and hope for a decent weekend or two to get out.

Getting along is key. Wish I had a dump in the drive.

I use a small electric dehumidifier on my kitchen counter with a drain hose that goes into the sink, a cap on the drain pipe with a hose fitting, and a short hose that runs out to a grassy area. I just leave the gray drain valve open - there's maybe a 1/4 cup of water a day during rainy season in Western Oregon. https://www.etrailer.com/Accessories...02-3106CL.html

It's definitely been nice having one and is something that I appreciate having more and more. For weekend trips, if we're not crossing the mountains, we fill the water tank and look for electrical hookups only--avoiding the sewer and water connections sometimes saves money and definitely saves a bit of setup and takedown time at the campsite.

As a bonus, when I got careless and didn't have the bayonet fittings on the sewer hose attached right and splattered a gallon or two of raw sewage in the driveway, it was a much more discreet and less embarrassing cleanup in my own driveway than it would have been at a public dump station or campsite.

I like that setup. I've got a similar cap already, black instead of clear.

I was a little worried about leaving the drain open on the sewer connection with the possibility of critters getting in, but the smaller hose diameter helps eliminate the larger ones anyway.

The dehumidifier probably adds a little bit of heat to the air as well which would be kind of nice--seemed like my larger one warmed the air a bit as well as drying it.

Bryce, you can purchase a hose washer with a screen. And you can buy a plastic hose cap and drill a fairly large hole in the cap, insert the screened hose washer into the cap, and then screw it onto the outlet end of the hose. It will keep even the smallest critters out. Slow moving water, however, has a tendency to build up slime so if you do this, you should check/rinse the modified hose cap.

Dehumidifiers work by chilling the air that passing through them - which does discard the heat content into the atmosphere. You are correct!

Only thing I would worry about is the shower drain having a trap that could freeze. Do they have a trap? Seems that the bathroom would get smelly if it didn’t.
