Maxxfan cleanup ?
Our Maxxfan has a buildup on the inside of the plastic cover that moves up and down, above the fan.
I’ve removed the screen, and lower shroud/circuit board.
The fan blades are cleaned and nice again.
Trying to clean that cover through the fan blades is difficult.
Do I have to drop the fan in order to clean that cover ? Or is there a tool to slip up there and scrub it up ?
Thanks, Bob

Bob,
Two methods:
1. Use an allen wrench and remove the fan blade then reach up in to clean the cover.
2. If you lean on the roof with the maxxfan cover open you will see two screws...remove these and the cover will pivot up so you can clean it from the outside. NOTE do not step or put all your body weight on the roof...it is not designed for that.

Mine was fairly easy after removing the Allen set screw. That drops the fan making the cover and fan both easy to clean.

Thanks so much. I’ll pull the fan blades off and wipe it down.

My Allen set screen doesn't want to budge. Is it lefty-loosey like usual, or reversed? I'm pretty sure the only movement is the little allen wrench is bending slightly.

Mine was a RH thread, so lefty loosey. It was tight, but I was careful and didn’t break the Allen wrench. Try some PB Blaster or some other loosening fluid.

Thanks all.
I went back out today (after WD40 last weekend) and just gave it my all. Allen wrench popped out a couple times, but after a frightening CRACK the fan blade fell away and everything was fine.
Now I need to rewatch the videos on how to take the motor apart. Bummer not having Internet access from the trailer.

Good luck !
Mine was very tight, but eventually loosened off, no WD needed. All nice and clean now.

I couldn't get the motor cover off. I even screwed the bolts back in on the outside, instead of through the case, and tried to use them to pull the cover off. Just slightly sprained my wrist.
So instead I alternated spraying compressed air and CRC QD Contact Cleaner through the four bolt holes. That got lots of black dust (air) and fluid (cleaner and then air) out and hopefully did the job. Going to let it air out for a few days before putting the bolts back in. 🤞

That allen set screw seems to always be really tight. A little penetrating oil is a good idea. It's not uncommon to snap an allen key off if that screw has been sitting for awhile.
