New Dexter self adjusting brakes
Escape sent out a notification a couple days ago ( which I now can’t find ). All trailers being built in 2022 will have Dexters NEV-R-ADJUST forward self adjusting electric brakes. You no longer have to do a manual adjustment on these brakes. I picked my trailer up on 12/14/2021 and decided to shimmy my body under the trailer to see what was installed. I will be returning my adjustment tool to Amazon

Go on Dexters web page and search for nev-r-adjust it has all the info about not having to manually adjust.

Even with self adjusting brakes you may at one time or another have to back off the self adjusters with an adjustment tool. Especially if you get a ridge on your drums and want to pack your bearings. Don’t send it back to Amazon, just throw it in the tool box

fyi, when my mobile RV repair guy serviced my brakes a few months ago, he replaced the whole brake assembly with these self adjusters. whoa boy, my brakes were a lot stronger after that, I had to retune the 'strength' on the brake controlle.

Brake noob, here. Just picked up our trailer and wanted to check if I have these self-adjusting brakes. I looked online and apparently I should see a lever where the star wheel should be. From what I can tell, I have that lever and can see a yellow spring in the other slot so am I good to go?
BTW - There's spray foam overspray everywhere under there..on the axles, brakes, wheel wells, etc. Glad I can't see it from the topside.

Ah OK. Mine don't have that so trying to figure it out some other way. Thanks for your response. Stickers are most helpful sometimes.

If you signed up for Escapes email releases you should have received an email a couple weeks ago from them. It stated all trailers built in 2022 would have these self adjusting brakes. I would ask Escape they should be able to confirm your trailer has or does not have them.

Thanks. I asked when I picked it up last week and the guy at Escape said he would have to crawl underneath to tell...he wasn't going to do that because it was parked in their muddy lot.
What I forgot to ask was what to look for...which is totally on me.
I would have thought he would have known that all trailers built in 2022 had these brakes but since he couldn't confirm it without looking, I am now unsure. Hence my question to anyone on here who might be able to tell me what to look for.
Pretty sure I am signed up for emails as I receive many from Escape but I haven't received that one so perhaps there is yet another list I need to get myself on. Oh well. I will ask them to see if they can confirm.

Collectively, I spent weeks on my jobs over the years on my back in mud, in snow, in puddles on hot roofs, and hot asphalt. And I’m hardly the exception, I’ll bet that’s true with a more than a few Escape owners. He must have had a fear of melting. Probably indicative of todays work force. To me this attitude is pathetic and unacceptable. He needs a $4 tarp for Christmas or a piece of refrigerator cardboard.

It’s on the axel, not the backside of the wheel…

Not an Escape, but our Little Guy Mini Max has Dexter self-adjusters. They are adjusted loose from the factory, but it just takes a few (50-75) miles of regular driving to get them working well. The adjustment process can be speeded up by repeated brake applications. Normal automobile self-adjusters are activated by applying the brakes when backing, but the Dexters adjust going forward.

And the things we've done, out of necessity, gumption, lack of money and I guess youthful enthusism . I recall driving a F-250 up on the curb, in a January Wisconsin cold snap, to shimmy under it and swap out a starter motor.
So, a telescoping mirror device and squat down to a wheel could have told the story for this fellow. No muss, no mud, no fuss. Live & learn.

Yes, if your brakes have the lever visible through the one rear slot they are self-adjusting. The lever actually engages with the star wheel but mostly hides it. Theses brakes should be initially adjusted by Escape or any installer. We adjusted ours on a retrofit application.

Hey Dave- so true; today's customers are a taken for granted inconvenience.

Thank you. Much appreciated.
To clarify…I’m not slamming the Escape staff member for not crawling around in the mud. I should have asked what to look for so it’s on me. He was extremely helpful on all questions not mud related and did a great job explaining everything and answering all our questions. I have no complaints about the pick-up experience whatsoever. In retrospect I just thought it was strange that he couldn’t confirm the type of brakes that were on the trailer. We love the trailer and are looking forward to good times. That’s what matters.

Thanks Rossue and HABBERDABBER. I felt sure there are a lot of Escape owners who not only made their living getting hot, cold, wet and dirty. And, more importantly, continuing in their retirement to help those less experienced in all things Escape.
