Protection for trailer cover
We wanted to share the results of a solution we came up with to protect our trailer cover from protruding corners, in particular, the corners of the solar panels, and the tops of the canopy posts.
Because our old pool noodles are wearing down pretty dramatically, especially in the high winds we've had over the last year, we were looking for alternatives. A while back, my wife found 4" balls at a dollar store, that, with some modification, we tried. I just now took the cover off the trailer, and we are pleased with the results. no wear to the balls, and no signs of any stress at all on the cover fabric.
To mount on the solar panel corners, I cut slots in the balls, then used long deck screws as pins to engage holes in the bottom of the solar panel frames, to hold the balls in place.
For the canopy posts, I cut the balls in half, and pinned them to the front side of the posts. I had replaced the bolts holding the canopy posts to the canopy roller, with eye bolts, a long time ago. The ˝ foam balls were a perfect protector from the protruding eyes.
I've also included our new solution to keeping the cover stowed when not in use. We roll it to the middle from each end of the trailer, then let it slide down one side of the trailer into the white laundry basket.
