Simple, useful tool

It is always a pain to try and crawl under the trailer to open/close the fresh water tank drain.

Made this simple tool a few weeks ago and it makes opening /closing the valve easy.

Took an old broom stick, cut it down to 3 foot long and then cut a notch in one end a little wider than the valve drain handle. Works like a charm... Click image for larger version

Good suggestion. That fresh water drain valve can be kind of tough to turn. The ears on mine got damaged by road debris so I replaced it. I spray it with silicone one in a while. The stick looks like something I could use. I have a snow speeder stick like the Iroquois kids used for games in the winter. I think I could cut a notch in the back end and get double duty out of it. Thanks for sharing.

Dave,
Could you pass on the info for where you got the replacement valve?
Mine broke and I just replaced it with a plastic plug.

This is what I replaced mine with, those plastic valves don’t last forever. You can buy these at any hardware store. Just get a 1/2” npt valve. Click image for larger version

And if you need to check the oil on your Model T, that tool works there too!

I just stopped by at a local RV dealer and they had them in the shelf prepackaged. I backed the old one out with a wrench and took it with me so i would get the right size but I think they were universal. We have several dealers nearby. One guy is fairly small but gets stuff in quickly. I’ve bought a few things from him like propane hoses and a regulator and stuff like that. They kind of get to know you and last year he gave me a previous years RV equipment catalog. It helps to know the trade name of parts when you need something. I don’t think the valve will be hard to find.
