I put the regulator directly on the faucet, so the water filter (if I'm using it) and the hose are after the regulator. If the water pressure is so high that it is dangerous to the trailer's plumbing, then the filter assembly and hose should be protected; on the other hand, a leak within the trailer can be a big problem but the hose and portable filter are easily replaced, so maybe they could be considered sacrificial.
I'm using a big heavy regulator (adjustable, with gauge) so I like having it supported by the faucet. A light basic regulator could go anywhere as far as support is concerned.
