5.0TA is home

My wife and I took delivery of our new 5.0TA on Thursday and we are very happy with how everything turned out. The the process went very smoothly. I was concerned about the turn radius with our short bed Sierra, but Reace said from the beginning that it wouldn't be an issue. It wasn't. The Reese 15k non slider is installed on the axle and I have 33" the back window of clearance. If I remember correctly, lot's of numbers this weekend!

The drive home to Tacoma was uneventful and I really enjoyed how the 5.0 tows. It seems to really handle the bumps much better than our bumper pull Casita. Backing up is different. Not hard, it will just take a bit to get used to. We woke up Friday morning and loaded up a few things that always stayed in the Casita. We then went just 10 miles down the road to McChord AFB and camped with some friends on the base RV park. We had a terrific weekend! 2 of the best night's sleep that I have had in a long time.

We are headed out again this weekend. We can hardly wait!

Our first look!

Carefully checked out the turn angle while my wife watched. And constant supervision from our Aussie Bonser!

Great pictures Bob. Congratulations!

Interestingly, I also see in the factory photo that they've pulled a single door fridge from somebody's trailer to replace it with the 2 door.

Thanks. It appeared that several trailers were there waiting for the fridge to be replaced.

Congrats! We viewed a 5.0TA on Sunday and it's very intriguing (as in it might be what we finally decide on).

Hi Ken, our Sierra is the max tow package meaning it has a 6.2 engine with 3.73 gears. It never gets good mileage! We towed our 5.0 about 170 miles this past weeked and the mpg was about 13. That was using the fuel used off of the dash computer, which has always been surprisingly accurate. Your 5.3 should do better. I love the way our 5.0 tows and we are extremely pleased with everything. Bob

Hi Ken
We just picked up our 5.0TA a couple of days ago and tow with a GMC Sierra with the 5.3 and got 13 mpg going up the coqahalla hwy from Chilliwack to Merritt, which is a very steep climb. On the flat we get about 15 mpg imp. By the way you will love your new trailer.

Cheers
Doug

I have a GMC Sierra with the 5.3 and 3.42 gears and was wondering what MPG (US) to expect with our 5.0TA. Just curious, what speed are you towing?

Thanks,
Mark

We were travelling up long steep stretches at about 80 to 90 km and on the flats 110 km. climbing the transmission temp hit 205 degrees F.
All told we are very happy with the setup.
Cheers

Our past truck, same as yours, 5.3 3.42, we would get 16 to 18 mpg imp, towing at 60mph and towing with gear 6 locked out.
