Escape 21 under Scorpius

Here is my Escape 21 at home in the Florida Panhandle, with the constellation Scorpius overhead. My banana tree is behind the trailer.

Ahhhhh. Green grass. Banana Trees. And not a single flake of that frozen white stuff anywhere. Very nice photo.

I can't count how many times I get asked why I live so far south. "It's so hot there!" 8-9 months of paradise at a cost of only 3-4 months of heat? That's why.

Kinda like where I live... lots of wet, there's a reason why we're GREEN!

Besides, we don't typically have bugs. Slugs don't fly

Good thing, those buggers could mess up a windshield in a hurry.

Some of the best memories of Florida are watching a Saturn V blasting off with an Apollo spacecraft atop heading to the moon. Maybe now that the next gen will be splashing down they can use an Escape instead of an Airstream on the aircraft carrier.

Thanks everyone. I actually don't think the image is calendar-worthy: the framing is wrong because the trailer is in a bad position in relation to the banana tree. Someone should try this and do a better job, by situating their trailer beneath a recognizable constellation and better surroundings. I took the photo at dusk, with some light in the sky. I used aperture priority with the lens wide open, and while the shutter was open I "painted" the left side of the trailer with a small LED flashlight. As long as your resulting exposure is less than thirty seconds or so, I don't think you'll get "light trails" in the stars above.

As for the climate-- I grew up here, in the house where I live now, moved to the D.C. area for thirty years, and moved back in late 2012 when I retired. I am having a hard time getting used to the summers again. In the future I intend to spend the hot months somewhere else in my Escape.

Re the Apollo program-- I saw Apollo 11 blast off from the causeway leading to Cape Canaveral, where they let the public view the liftoff. I was twelve.

Either way, I'm sure Florida is a nice place to visit. Maybe someday.

It is a nice place to visit as well as to live. Summer heat no worse than the winter cold elsewhere. I left NH because I found hot to be uncomfortable but cold to be painful. Still, I want to go north in the summer just like many in the north want to go south in the winter. Every place has it's goods and it's bads. Moral of my post: Visit Florida. Just don't do it in the summer!

Well, one good feature of my home area is that I'm less than an hour from one of the prettiest beaches in the country. Google "Pensacola Beach". It's especially nice this time of year.
