Don't overlook this little gem 45 minutes south of Lone Pine, CA on Hwy 395. Very cool geologically and hardly anyone goes there. Found out about it from our son who did a field trip there. Have seen the signs for decades- just never stopped.

Nice Ross . I see picnic table . Any water etc. what is the cost ? Pat

I'm guessing water would be where the trees are.

Yep- it's primitive; pit toilet, no water. The $5/nite doesn't do it justice, which keeps the glamping crowd moving up/down the hwy

Very true like many free or inexpensive camping places. Those big guys want and need power connections or must run their gensets all the time.

You missed my friends at Quartzsite this year Jim. They were in a Grand Design Solitude and did a Tesla battery module conversion/solar. Did a presentation on Saturday for folks. 1000ah of lithium batteries and 1200w solar on the roof. Runs everything in the coach as if plugged in. We’re just starting to see some of these big rigs that no longer need power poles or gensets, but they are probably still a bit ahead of the curve.

Wow, Ross, thank for posting this. We've also driven by and never thought about what's there. We're always busy thinking about trout, and discussing the origin of the basaltic ridge that Little Lake is at the north end of.

(For those who are interested, look up "1872 Owens Valley quake". It was a 7.4± quake that raised that ridge 15-20 feet, and shifted it several dozen feet. This is the same "Little Lake Fault Zone" where last year's 6.5 and 7.1 quakes occurred N. of Ridgecrest. )

We felt it here along the coast 180 mi. away. Oh, we have such a fun time surfing the land and the ocean in Ca.

Nice to see sustainable RVing catching on. "Gone with the Wynns" were doing that 4 years ago on their YouTube channel. Also a composting toilet. Full sized class A rig. Then they decided to see the world, bought a catamaran and are doing the same things while sailing around the world. been following them and their adventures for 6 years now.

We will be heading North along US 395 2nd week of March after some time in Joshua Tree NP. We were planning on Alabama hills for 2 nights. How would you compare the two?

No comparison; we sometimes stop at Fossil Falls if we got a later start as Alabama Hills at Lone Pine is about another 45 minutes up the road and we dont like to look for boondock sites there in the dark. Alabama Hills rocks!(literally)
