Squeezing into the carport
We have waited since mid-March for our Escape. At first it was going to be a 13B with some modifications. Then we went to the Fort Langley Egg Meet in May and changed the order to a pretty-much plain 17B. Yesterday we picked it up!
Driving it home was uneventful. Got my first practise backing up today. A bit of a challenge, but no catastrophe.
I seem to remember measuring the south side of our carport at 7'-11.5", and I think that Reace told me yesterday that the top of the Maxx fan would be 8'-4". Bummer. No way to fit the rig into the carport.
Kathleen says try to make it fit. Try lowering the front as far as it will go. I agree, but don't expect it to work.
Holy cow! It's gonna work!
Now that it is place, raise the front end until the trailer is level. Oops, it's touching the ceiling. Back off a turn.
Now park the tow vehicle.
The tongue and propane still stick out. And the trailer front is going to get afternoon sun, so I guess it is going to fade. But is is out of the rain, and not in our neighbours' faces. We are very happy with the arrangement.
Of course, towing takes a bit of getting-used-to. The weight-distributing hitch seems to amplify the little bumps a bit, but the bigger ones don't upset the rig much at all. I am feeling a bit of pulsing when I brake, which may be my imagination. If it is my ABS system, I'll have to increase the brake controller setting, but I don't think that's what is going on.
I think that we will try to find a place to stay next weekend before our major trip to LA (Lethbridge, Alberta) starts on the 13th.
Thanks to Reace and Tammy and their crew. This is going to be great!

Re: Squeezing into the carport
Great Job! Great pictures! Many happy days are ahead! Just don't hook up and drive away without lowering the front end again : - )

Re: Squeezing into the carport
I was going to suggest removing the eaves trough, but I see you managed. Great pix. When it comes to bumps and the WD hitch, take the bars off and then see how much bounce there is. Way more.
Keath, Pam, Les and I should be at Lundbreck Falls on the 13th or 14th so you'll have to stop by for a beer.
Now, I have to get my act together since we decided at 8pm tonight to head east a day earlier than was in the plan. We figure on running a short leg to Merritt and then heading for Salmon Arm early the next day in an attempt to secure a camp site. I haven't found any that will take my reservation.
Oh well, it's an adventure.

Re: Squeezing into the carport
Back to the carport. Keath and I took down 3/4 of my carport so the trailer would fit. We left a section four feet wide where I can store stuff under cover.

We'll be in Creston on the 14th to the 17th. To Pincher Creek on the 17th. You'll be gone by then, I take it?

Re: Squeezing into the carport
We'll have left for Idaho, assuming we get through the border. Apparently dog should have had rabies shot 30 days before crossing, but it will only have been a couple weeks. Vet says guards don't usually check the date that close. We might cross paths in Creston. I have to check the itinerary.

Re: Squeezing into the carport
Hi Ron
Nice trailer, sure feels good to get it home doesn't it.
If you want to get the trailer into the carport more you could
air down the tires a bit, just a thought.
By the way ours bounced along at first, then I tightened the chain
on the hitch up one more link and it took most of the bounce out.

Re: Squeezing into the carport
Thanks for the thoughts, Doug. I am reluctant to store a vehicle on low tires. In the old days, this could lead to flat-sided tires.
The solution we have seems good.

Re: Squeezing into the carport
Hi: ronstew... Ya gotta love them MaxxFans... They have a very low profile and we use ours constantly!!! "Our Escape Hatch has to sit outside tho.
Nice trailer I bet it still smells new... Gotta name yet Alf

Re: Squeezing into the carport
Name: The trailer.
I have tried naming cars and bikes, but the names never stick.

Re: Squeezing into the carport
Great pictures and you are so lucky to be able to park under cover.
Ours is out in the elements, but glad I can keep it plugged in all the time (expensive beer fridge though isn't it??)
Enjoy all your trips with it....

I just reread your post, and understand something that I did not at first. I can't push the trailer in further because I need an open path behind it.
