Escape preview

We are looking to purchase an Escape 17A. The first thing we need to do is to see if it will fit in our inner SE PDX driveway.

We're looking for an Escape owner in the PDX area who might be willing to accept our driveway challenge.

Per the ETI website the width of a 17A is 6'8". Hight (with AC) is 8'8". These measurements along with your backing up skills should help you decide if it will fit. Good luck. -Bea

Thanks Bea,

The challenge is the steepness of the driveway. So, a live test is about the only way I can think of to determine if it will fit.

That's interesting. Are you concerned about the back end scraping as you head up the incline? If so, the lift kit could solve the problem. Other than that, it should be mainly a question of length, width and height.... unless, perhaps, you're concerned about maneuvering around a sharp bend?

This photo shows the clearance at rear of classic 17B, with high lift, if that's a concern.

We have a 17A in Hillsboro, but I'm sorry there's no way I would want it to be used for a steepness/will-it-scrape test

Thanks!

We plan on taking it slow to ensure a safe evolution with no casualties...

Whether it's doable or not will be apparent without taking any undo risk.

In the meantime, I think i've found an adequate solution.

Thank you all for reading/contributing to this thread.

I'll try to figure out how to delete it.

You could come and measure ours maybe, to see how much clearance there is underneath etc? We're taking it out on Thursday afternoon, so Thursday mid-day it'll be out in our driveway at home.

Thank you for the kind offer.

I had the opportunity to get the measurements I needed, just this past weekend.

Best Rgds...

My driveway has a steep angle at the curb but my 17B sat pretty high. I only had a problem when the bike rack was on. The bike tires would hit the driveway.

We used to own a 2004 Fleetwood Redwood tent trailer. Just about the biggest you could buy at the time, full 14' box high wall. The rear bumper would scrap when the tires were in the gutter at the curb. To manage this, I would put a caster in my bike rack receiver on the back. As I backed up, the caster would unload the trailer suspension a bit and avoid the scrapping.

I made the caster up, a piece of square tube, a small piece of steel plate with a heavy duty rigid caster.
