New on 'Pre-Owned Escape Trailers' Page

FYI, received a notice from the Escape 'Pre-Owned Trailers for Sale by Owner' page: two additions, a 2019 E5.0 (NC) and a 2021 E21NE (VA).

We don't have a pickup, so the 5.0 is out.

The 21NE is interesting: owner says he paid US $43.6k, but since 2022 build prices add up to $48k, that's what he's asking. Maybe figuring to get his sales tax back? Crazy market, where prices appreciate after sale!

For sure. A used/new 2021 Casita listed for over $31,000 a couple of months ago. Shown as sold within days. Every thing fiberglass has been selling for more than the purchase price the past 18 months, no matter the model year.

Probably due to the wait time. Who wants to wait? You can always make more money, but you can never, ever make more time. We're only given so many camping days in our lifetime, don't waste them. So while waiting, you may be saving money, but you're not saving time. And neither one are saved when you die.

Never saw a hearse stop at a bank to make a withdrawal and There ain’t no pockets on a casket. It all depends on your perspective, ability and willingness to pay and patience. I was at a campfire gathering last night where everyone was a senior citizen and all were campers, explorers, and outdoors folks. It was refreshing to talk with these people who were quick to admit their limitations but still embraced the outdoor life. I gave some hoarded stuff away and drank some free whisky. It felt just like a rally to me.

It seems a bit cheeky to ask the full new 2022 price, but the crazy thing is they will get it from someone.

We sold our 21 for more than we paid for it but considerably less than new. It sold in 25 minutes. We could have gotten more . However someone got a nice trailer and we had 4 years of no cost camping other than maintenance. I’m not greedy enough it seems.

IMO it's neither greedy nor crazy to ask nor would it be crazy to buy at that price - the 'value' is a matter of the buyer's wants, needs, and priorities. Instant gratification can have legitimate value for some and there's nothing wrong with that.

Whatever the final transaction price, no-one has a gun to their head, it'll reflect a meeting of the minds between a willing seller and a willing buyer.

Just to be clear, I didn't say that either buyer or seller would be crazy to make such a deal, only that it was a 'crazy', meaning unusual, contrary to expectations, market. Typically vehicles depreciate after their first sale.

Aren't some warranties lost for a non-original buyer?

If so that might justify a bit lower price than new.

These are some strange times.

Years ago there was a very popular handgun that had a ceiling price. The manufacturer warned dealer not to charge more than retail. Dealers would take the new handgun and fire it once into a bullet trap or whatever. Then sell it for a price greater than the retail price as a used unit. Within a couple years the used price dropped about 25 %

Scarcity, real or contrived, impatience, and discretionary funds in the hands of consumers cause market fluctuations contrary to what I learned in economics 101. As my dad would say “Whatever the market will bear.” He’d follow that with a mumbling “a fool and his money”……

Yes, both the power and manual awning warranties are limited to the original purchaser, likely there's others.

We take possession of our 21C next October and am taking for profit bids now. Just let me know what options you want and I'll right up a contract.

You can save months of waiting and get your personal option package for an October 2022 delivery for just a minimum $7,000 USD surcharge.

Do not miss out on this extraordinary presale opportunity.

Don't laugh. I'll bet there are some who'd take you up on it.

wanna see some crazy vehicle inflation, look up the BMW 507, made in the late 50s, and sold for around $9000 new, which was about $4000 above the original market target price, so they only ever made a couple 100 and it nearly bankrupted BMW.... they are selling in the $2 million range now. gorgeous cars, btw.

Brings to a question of why set a price as a seller? Seems to me it would make sense to announce a unit is for sale, with specifications and photos and set a fixed date for the submission of offers. Would truly set the market value for the trailer at that point in time.

Forum rules require a price, that said, an owner can always accept more than the asking price if such occurs.......

No doubt it depends on the market. In a good buyers' market, sellers will have to fight off low-ballers. In a difficult buyers' market, as now, the sellers call the shots. I suppose if demand were strong enough, an auction might make sense.

That's a point. I've seen reports that Dexter warrantees their axles only for the original buyer, so if you're a second owner and problems develop (as they have been for some trailers), you won't be covered.
