2015 Escape Rally: Gin Distillery
Hi all, we won't be making the rally this year but I thought I would pass on some info for those who are interested in gin. We were in the Osoyoos area last week and we stumbled onto a new gin distillery that recently opened. It is called Noteworthy Gin and is situated on Gallagher Road (runs parallel to the Highway) between Oliver and OK Falls. While I am not a big gin drinker, I must admit it is very smooth and I bought a bottle. He just won an award for the best BC gin a few weeks back. Passing this info along for those who might like to try something different. The facility itself is pretty cool and he walks you through the entire process if you are interested.
Regards
Scott

Well I will definitely have to add this to our touring. Now all they need is to have a few good micro breweries for the non wine drinkers and we will have extend our trip!
Thanks Scott

Here's the link to his website:

Take a lok at the photos. The distiller is a big time scotch enthusiast and hopes to get into scotch later on but it is just gin for now.

Slow to the game, was mentioned above.
To be labelled Scotch, it must be a malt whisky, distilled in Scotland, aged in oak barrels (though can be finished in other barrels), and contain no additional ingredients other than water and colouring.
There are lots of great whiskies worldwide, many single malt too, that a distilled elsewhere in the world, they just can't be labelled Scotch.

Yes, I was a dram late to the game.
I believe Canadian Rye Whiskey, or Canadian Whiskey, is only made in Canada, Bourbon is only made in the USA and Irish Whiskey is only made in Ireland. It's the water and the atmosphere. The ingredients can be acquired anywhere.

Had an excellent tour with Grant and his father today. Very professional layout with some excellent brewing equipment. What he actually does is make a beer derivative and then extract the pure alcohol to which he adds the spices and flavours. This is how he will be able to make vodka/whiskey/etc in the future.
His gin is excellent by the way. I didn't mind actually just sipping it. It is $50 for a bottle so you may want to sample first.
If anyone wants to buy a bottle he will actually be at the Saturday morning farmers market in Osoyoos all season.
