2017 Mississippi River Rendezvous September 29-Oct 1

The sleepy village of Thomson Illinois and the US Army Corp of Engineers Campground called Thomson Causeway will be our destination this year. Some may recall that last years rally was planned for this location, but we failed to book our reservation with "Ole Man River", resulting in being flooded out three days before the event. You can read all about that and last years event here.

The festivities begin on Friday September 29, 2017. The booking window for campsites opens on March 29, 2017. We will be using sites 99-126, but three additional loops are available, two of those are within easy walking distance. Booking is done at www.recreation.gov.

The nearby shelter, Stone, has been reserved for the duration of the rally.

The rally brings a nice mix of fiberglass owners, wannabe owners, traditional trailers and mere mortals caught in the middle of a rally. This will be the third year of the rally. We hope you can join us this year.

Hi Paul
We will be there, God willing, that little nearby creek don't rise and the Devil don't come to take my soul. As usual, we will help any way we are able. We will have peppers, zucchini and possibly aphrodesiatic garlic to share. 99.5 miles for us, can't wait. I'll take and post a couple pictures next time I'm in the neighborhood to hit the casino buffet at Clinton.
What a dance do they do
Lordy now I am telling you
They don't need no band
They keep time by clapping their hands
Hey hey, uncle Fudd, it's a treat when campers beat their feet on the Mississippi mud.
With apologies to Bix Beiderbecke and a young Bing Crosby.

I'm working on Mary for it. She says that that time of year is right in the middle of when we are out on our big fall trip somewhere.... to be continued.

Just put it in our calendar to reserve a spot. We attended last year's rally staying at a motel in order to talk to/meet people and tour some trailers. This year, we'll have our own! Can't wait!

I'm sure folks will have lots of good questions about your diesel Canyon pulling the 21. Looking forward to seeing your rig. $20 a night or $10 with the geezer pass sure beats motel prices. Bring your fish pole, we will catch and fry a carp.

Eric we tend to go to the rendezvous either at the beginning or the end of our fall trip. Just saying...

Good, you and Lindy can work on her while you're here next week.

No fall trip planned this year , my wife is not too enthusiastic about making another 5000 mile drive . Trying to talk her into taking a short Fall trip and this rally sounds perfect only 400 miles from home.
The chance to meet Iowa Dave in person is alone worth the price of admission.
We are at the maybe point in our discussion so I am hopeful that we can attend this year. Already marked my calendar so I don't forget to reserve a spot when and if the boss gIves her approval .

Wait... What?!?! No offense to Dave, but without your guidance the torque competition could take three days. I'm looking forward to defending my tied for a very distant second place finish from last year, but I gotta go to work on Monday.

LOL - keep up the pressure, I'll use it on Mary! Would love to see everybody. I'll just have to scheme how to work the fall trip around the rally. Paul just loves to complicate my marital life with this date!

Bummer for me. I have a wedding I am required to attend that weekend. I'll miss my opportunity to dethrone Linda, the reigning torque wrench wench winner. And I've been practicing all winter. And so it goes.

Hi Tom
I'll pick up a few hedge balls for us. You post how you put them in your Escape when you winteriIzed and how they kept the spiders out. It will be an internet sensation I'll pick them up, you promo them, we sell them and keep ourselves in beer all winter. Maybe the guy will come to his senses and duck out.

Hey Jimrules,
If we're gonna do this thing maybe you could improve the format to streamline the
Logistics. Remember I spent my working life for the most part doing government work where the job expanded to fit the time available. With no stopping point except the pot
luck at 6 PM I got lost in the moment. I know there was a happy hour but when I'm rally'n my happy hour starts at 10:30 AM. And goes till I get noodley. Maybe we could do this in reverse and call it "How tight are my nuts?"

I was thinking since Jim works with high quality calibrated torque wrenches, he could borrow 3 of them to bring along. Then we could run the testing procedure faster and get to happy hour sooner - well except Dave will have started without us anyway.....

I've been trying peer pressure on Mary (she is much more immune to it than I am) to little effect, but today she suggested we do a long Colorado trip in September and end up back at the rally. Her favorite niece lives in Denver and there are lots of brew pubs there....

Now we've gotta try some peer pressure on Bennett and Baglo to get them there too and hopefully Reace and Tammy are going to be able to Escape and make it this year.
