2021 Rocky Mountain Fiberglass Rendezvous

The 8th annual Rocky Mountain Fiberglass Rendezvous will be held at the Mogote group campground, in the cool Colorado Rockies 14 miles west of Antonito, in south central Colorado from Monday, August 23rd to Thursday, August 26th.

All fiberglass trailer owners are welcomed.

In addition to the usual happy hours, potluck dinners, book and RV stuff trading, etc. going on, there's good fishing in the nearby Conejos River. The Cumbres & Toltec narrow gauge railroad also offers scenic rides daily from nearby Antonito.

For more information visit:

www.RockyMtnFiberglassRendezvous.com

We hope to see you in August!

Well, with a trailer pickup in Sumas scheduled for August 18 and a fairly direct trip home to the Austin area planned ..... that's an intriguing possible stopover / rendezvous

Thanks for posting

Centex: Fiberglass rallys (and there's a lot of them) are a great place to see what others have done with their trailers and to get good ideas of things you might want to do with yours.

I signed up!

I love that river valley and I would love to set up some hikes. The Lake Fork of the Conejos is right there.

What is the info on the campground? It looks to be booked up.

Hope to see you guys!

"What is the info on the campground? It looks to be booked up."

There is a six month in advance booking window for Rec.gov Forest Service sites so on their site, they 'grey' out dates that are more than six months from today.

Too early to reserve an individual campsite for August but the rally is in the seperate group site which has different advanced booking rules.

We signed up for this trip last year, but the whole thing got cancelled due to the pandemic. Glad to see they are going to try again this year. Hopefully we will all have had our vaccinations by then.

Don't overlook the nearby Cumbres & Toltec narrow gauge railroad. Its widely considered to be one of the best old time steam engine railroads in the country. Its an all day attraction for those interested in either old fashioned mechanical stuff or spectacular scenery or both...

Current build has me picking up our 21NE a couple of weeks or so (early Sept) after the rally. Maybe next year for us!

Don't give up hope. With cancellations and maybe increased production, you might end up with an earlier production slot.

Hey Greg,
Hope you are doing well. We would love to come to this, but it will be close on dates for us. If we find out last minute we can make it, do you anticipate you will still have space pretty late in the game?

Hi Greg: I'd say... "Stay tuned & check in again"... sometime before the Rendezvous. I've always felt that the more, the merrier. We've reserved both group site (Pinon & Juniper), but they're not overly large. We'll see. (BTW: The Cumbres / Toltec RR is a great way to spend a day.)

Did you make it over to Quartzsite? Ilse and I are at home in Colorado staging for our second Covid vaccination shots. So we didn't make it this year. 'probably best considering socially distancing, not gathering with people outside one's "pod", etc. I look forward to Quartzsite 2022... I see so many great ideas and learn important stuff at rallies, especially one as large as Quartzsite.

railroad excursion question

Colleen and I plan to attend this rally and taking the railroad trip.

If others are planning the railroad excursion, which tickets are you getting
coach ($105), deluxe ($164), or parlor cars ($206)?

reservations are available directly from the railroad: https://cumbrestoltec.com

Ilse and I have reserved two seats in the parlor car. Since this isn't something we'd probably do again, why not splurge a little?

Thanks Greg, I haven't looked at the railroad offerings yet but plan to reserve seats.

We've signed up for the parlor car, too.

When I called to reserve, the lady was careful to inform me that due to the pandemic, they have had to close down the shuttle bus operation. This means that unlike last year, we will not go all the way to Chama and return to Antonito by shuttle bus. Instead, we leave Antonito, cover half the route to Chama, have our lunch, then return to Antonito on the train. We will be on the wilder, more isolated and scenic half of the line. Still looks like a great day to me.

We booked today for the Parlor Car as well. She said that due to COVID they only have 10 people on the car and that we are getting the last 2 seats.

I inquired as to the turn around stop for the return, she told me it is at Osier, CO.

Also, for anyone unsure of taking the trip, no charge cancellations are allowed up to 48 hours in advance.

I am wondering if anyone knows the possibility of cell service (Verizon) in this campground? Colleen works regularly in the trailer with a Verizon Jetpack. Thanks

Yes I do! NOT! NONE! YNET! FORGETABOUTIT!

Am I being clear here?

I checked this last Summer coming out of Antonito. The signal faded even before entering the first set of ridgelines. That was well before this campground.

Maybe others have had better luck, but nothing for me.

Well... Assuming some of the folks who have signed up as "yes's", in the website won't come, and some of the folks signed up as "maybe's" will, it appears we are pretty much filled up the group campsites for this year's Rendezvous considering the Forest Service's Covid cap of 50 participatants. But... It's a small campground, and as today's date there are still many single reservable sites. So, if you're not already signed up, but would like to come, make a single site reservation, then sign up on our website (www.RockyMtnFiberglassRendezvous.com) indicating such in the Comments and come over and join in the fun!
