Chillhowee Recreation area October 22-25

Hello All,
It's been a while since I've been on the forum, and also WAY TO long since we camped in our home on wheels but still one of the smartest purchases I ever made.

Not really trying to start a rally but thought I would post this and see if anyone would be interested. Our 1st trip in our Escape was to Chillhowee Recreation area, rained the entire 3 days we were there but really loved the campground and new we planned to go back sometime. Well we have booked site A-8 from 10/22-10/25 so if anyone else interested really beautiful area.

Enjoy the journey,

Steve

The link

Here is a link to the campground on recreation.gov. , loops A & B have electric at site. Nice mountain bike trails if you like that, some nice hikes near by and in the park.

That's a great campground in a beautiful area! It is quite a steep winding road going up the mountain though, and is not recommended for under- powered rigs going up or rigs with braking problems coming down! I figure all of that just serves to encourage people to slow down and enjoy the views!

When we went last year we were towing our 21' Escape with a V6 Pathfinder that had 6000 lb towing capacity and had no problems going up or down. Now there is a dirt road that depending on direction your coming from your GPS could take you that way, I would avoid that road with your camper unless your used to that.
Also some great kayaking in this area, it will be cold but.........

Enjoy the journey,

Steve

I took this picture back in January, from a pull-off part way up the mountain, looking down on Lake Ocoee. I used to spend a lot of time there, back in the 70's and 80's. It's still one of my favorite places in southeast Tennessee. They held the Olympic Kayaking competition on the Ocoee river, which empties into the lake, a number of years ago. Having been on that river myself, I promise you that even a world-class kayaker can find a challenge when the water levels are appropriate (they are controlled).
