Here's the story:

https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/calga...aska-1.5621452
They were not arrested. They were issued tickets for going hiking when they were supposed to drive directly to Alaska. So, they lied and got a slap on the wrist ( $1,200 fine each ). CAD I presume.

Was that Yogi Bear or Yogi Berra? Must have been the latter because bears really can’t talk, except in the cartoons and in Walt Disney movies, and even in the cartoons the bears usually make more profound comments. For those who are hoping to attend the Wine Escape, let’s just hope we don’t hear “melodic tones coming from a weight challenged older female” anywhere near Niagara Falls.

Are you talking about the drone of the dependable Diesel engines as the voice of the Maid of the Mist? Cecelia the campground owner at Riverside knows stuff leaks and it’s not that big a deal to her. For those who have stayed at Riverside the restrooms and showers are cleaned many times a day, the washing machines are spotless and the floor is continually mopped. She has gone above and beyond several times for us personally and for the rally group collectively. She has some rules but they are easy to follow and it’s always been a safe, pleasant, reasonably priced and quiet campground for us. We are approaching 10,000 round trip miles to attend this rally the last 6 years in a row and a minimum 15 lbs. additional passenger cargo after my breakfast at Betty’s.
I hope there’s a rally and I hope the border is open but if not, there’s next year. Positive thoughts.

Propane and backfat

Hi Jim, I was just messing with you. That happened to be a propane tank in a Colorado campground where they used propane to heat the water and the shower house. I’ve just been waiting to use it on you.
At home I used to have a propane forced air furnace. A few years ago we put in geothermal with an electric pump to move the fluid through 800 feet of 1 1/4 inch pipe that is 12 feet in the ground and a constant 55 degrees F. The electrical cost is considerably less than propane. I still have the 500 gallon propane tank that we use for the fireplace, range, and water heater. I only fill it once a year, takes about 250 gallons. The geo system has a water tank that gets heat from the ground and then it’s pushed to the second tank (water heater) and doesn’t have to be heated as much as if it was straight out of the well. Probably saves us some money and reduces the use of fossil fuels. Toying with a solar setup on the south property line. Might not live long enough to get our money back but would give us power outage capability. We have a new substation less than 1/2 mile out on the highway so dependability has been good. Only had one 3 day ice storm outage in 14 years and while the outside temps were in the 20s we did not drop below 60 in the house using the propane fireplace and thermal mass of the logs. Food stayed cold or frozen in the 6 or 7 coolers I have out in the garage. Thought of you the other day when I was rendering lard from backfat off the Mangalica hog we bought. Ate a few cracklings when I was done and made a sandwich from lean that was on the edges of the fat. A country boy can survive.

I came through there on my way back from Cantril. We went to the Dutchman’s Store to stock up before the Pandemic became a shelf clearing event. Lots of new buildings at the Maharishi University.

Maharishi High School

The university sponsored High School has students that are sons and daughters of teachers, professors and support staff from the college. They have an academic decathlon team that is first rate. The team finished second to Thomas Jefferson Senior High in Cedar Rapids three years in a row at the state championship. My daughter Teresa said they were tough to beat but the Bohemies from Czech Tech got the job done. She was on the team three years and they finished 7th in the United States in Erie Pa. The other night she sent me a picture of Todd and her cutting up 15 Farm raised chickens. Nut don’t roll too far from the tree.

It’s not just a news article, Our Prime Minister has publicly stated more than once the border will not open until things improve greatly in the USA.

I have an acquaintance in Ottawa who’s job it is to know such thing who suggested to me last week that there is a good possibility it will not open until next year. :-(

If I were even considering entering the USA, I wouldn't do it until I could buy travel medical insurance that covers Covid 19. I think that may take a lot longer than it takes to reopen the border.
I also wouldn't travel between Canadian provinces without travel medical that covers Covid 19.

Seems to me if you have medical insurance, it should cover your illness regardless of source. Unless there is a list of not covered illness......

Lost phrases

I note that many of the older phrases for having imbibed a little too much have fallen from common use.
Getting all tanked up, being one of them.
A couple of my old favorites
Three sheets to the wind
Feeling no pain
Under weigh
Higher than a kite on the Fourth of July.
Ahh the good old days when guys would stop at the filling station for a short snort after work and buy one of those little Cokes for a dime and hand it to me and say “drink the top off that.” Drink a little more. And then top it off with cheap whisky and slowly tip it upside down with their thumb tightly holding the contents in. And returning it to vertical slowly and Then sipping a couple inches down the neck.
“Catching any fish Smitty? They’d ask.
Those were the days.
