I'll be at the Long Term Visitor area starting on December 9th, and will move to Dome Rock in early February.

We are planning to stay at the LTVA because it is our first time boondocking and the idea of water and dumpster is appealing. But we mostly want to attend the rally at Dome Rock. If we don't get in too early in January, we might just go straight to Dome Rock; is it easy to get to the RV Show from there? Will we have trouble getting into "Snob Hill" if we wait until February to move to Dome Rock from LTVA? Thanks so much for helping newbies.

The biggest problem getting to the Big Tent Show is parking. If you stay in LaPosa West, it is a short walk to the tent, but anywhere from a mile to 4 miles in the other LTVAs. From Dome Rock, about 4-5 miles, but again the parking & traffic will be very difficult.

Generally, there is plenty of room on "Snob Hill" no matter when you arrive, although you might not be able to get on the edge overlooking the lower area if you get there on the weekend.

It is a tough thing that I have to travel far south to Quartzsite to get a Snob label. I do like the hill (okay, slight rise) though. Nice for walks to the south and view of the crazy folks that camp below.

Being there two years in a row, now four years ago, I would like to head back some day.

We'll be arriving on about Feb 8th, assume I'll still be able to get a spot? Looking forward to meeting you all. 😎

Is the big tent worth going to? Are there good deals on gear or can I get same price elsewhere?

Hard to say. Probably worth going to at least once if for no other reason to see the size of it. If you expect a tent full of RV stuff, you will be disappointed; at least 60% of the booths have the same stuff you would see at a state fair. On the other hand, I have always found at least one "treasure" each year over the last 5 years I've been to it.

Quartzite Rally

I'm in Tonapah tonight and on my way, hoping it gets a good turnout. Are there porta-pottys, outhouses, or such on the BLM Land? Do I get off on I-10 for the Dome Rock Campground?

There are NO services where you're going at Dome Rock. None. Just a big ole patch of dirt and scrub. And new friends galore! Plan ahead for water, fresh and waste.

Traveling from the west on I-10 you can get off I-10 to access Dome Rock Rd W or go into Quartzsite and get off at the interchange on the west side of Quartzsite at the truck stops (Love's Travel Stop) and then back track to the west on Dome Rock Road.

You can get water, propane, garbage and dump in Quartzsite.

This was posted at the CasitaForum this morning: "**UPDATE** As of 3 Feb23 the dump stations at RV Pit Stop are shut down by the town. There is a new facility 0.3 miles further north on US95 on the left (west) side called RV Relief. Modern, clean, great crew. Dump stations, filtered water, and propane. Reduced dump and water prices for “eggs” because we have smaller tanks than the same sized stick-built trailers. "

Lots of cheap filtered water available in town, so bring a big jug or two.

Interesting on the in town dump station. I used it a couple times, but it was definitely somewhat aged.

As of this morning (Feb 7) the RV Pit Stop was open again. FYI.

Havasu Winterblast fireworks event Feb 13-20 is sold out but a friend cancelled and is offering her ticket for something less than the $250 she paid. Legitimate transfer with Winterblast approval. PM me and I’ll put you in touch, or get my text # off the bulletin board at the main welcome tent here at Dome Rock. I’m just the messenger.

Coffee Roasting (and Tasting) at Quartzsite

If you’re at the Quartzsite Gathering and want to learn how to roast fabulous coffee at home and on the road, I’ll show you how.

Coffee roasting is so easy and so rewarding that you should at least consider it. You don’t need expensive equipment - you can get what you need for less (far less?) than $100.

Fellow roasters: please join and share your stories.

Time: Friday, 2/10, 10-11 AM
Location: Jackie’s Escape trailer (Escape 5.0 TA) camped about 50 yards west of the tents where you got your gathering button and where the afternoon music is.

If you’re not interested in roasting, but want to taste a free cup of coffee brewed from home roasted Guatemalan beans, stop by Jackie’s Escape 7-9 AM. While supplies last!

If you really, really, want to learn how to roast coffee, I give personal coffee roasting “labs”. You‘ll roast two batches of Guatemalan beans in my equipment under my supervision. You’ll leave with about ˝ pound of home roasted coffee in a reusable coffee storage bag and a coffee brewing measuring scoop. The cost in $10. Come by Jackie’s Escape and do it yourself.

Rich
