WA: Ft Casey Spring Escape Rally April 24-28, 2022
Fort Casey April 24-28 2022
It’s almost time to book our spring Escape Rally. (I’m not going to advertise it on non-Escape sites but if you have a friend with another brand fiberglass feel free to invite them.)
There is only one loop, with limited hookup sites, so you will be able to book anything available and still be near the action. There is plenty of light even on cloudy days for solar panels.
We scheduled it for Sunday-Thursday because those are the free nights on the Washington State Senior Pass. If you have one, you can put in last year’s number to reserve. If you don’t, but are a Washington resident who will be 62 by then, you can get one as of September 1 (or at the park) and get a refund on your site fees, less reservation charge, when you arrive. The pass is $75 and allows free camping at non-hookup sites and $10 a night for hookups.
Activities- the main nights for things going on will be Mon, Tues, and Wednesday, so don’t worry if you can’t arrive Sunday or stay through the week, you won’t miss too much.
Here’s how you book: go to https://washington.goingtocamp.com/ and fill out the reservation form. Click on the map to see what’s available, and select your site. If you book the 24th-28th you can book at 7 am on the 24th. (You can book 9 months in advance of your first date.)
Once you have your site, post here to let us know who (first names are fine) and site # (or PM me if you don’t want that info posted. (Some people worry about advertising when they will be away from home.)

That works. There have been available spaces for April as late as January or February so no worries.

Reminder: tomorrow is the day to book 9 months ahead for best choice of sites. They start taking bookings at 7 am on the website. I already booked site 16 (I'll be there Friday and Saturday, too) but lots of sites including some hookups are available.
Let us know what you booked and how long so we can keep updating the map.

What do you think? We're on Vancouver Island and wondering how Covid will play out for cross border rendezvous with you Washington Escapees. Roll the dice?

Hopefully by next April things will be back to the new normal. Washington state is not reservation friendly if you might cancel. The longer you hold the reservation before you cancel the more money they keep. I know it’s to discourage people from booking places and then cancelling at the last minute.

Well, as Washington State Park campsites go these are on the less expensive end. So it might be worth a roll of the dice. My guess is you'd be good to go. I think the sites that are left are all $25 a night (US) so losing 50% would only be $50 although then there is also a reservation and cancellation fee so actually a bit more. But with BC allowing us in sounds like by then we'd be allowing you in. Or just keep an eye on the site and reserve when it looks like only 1-2 spaces are left.

I just received an email from Washington State Parks advising me that I had used an invalid senior off-season discount number for all my reservations during the months of October 2021 through April 2022. Evidently the parks people have decided that using a pass number from this season is a loophole in making reservations for next season (how could one become disqualified for the pass unless they grew younger?). So I called the number given in the email and spent over 40 minutes going through every one of my reservations to give them my credit card so they could charge me the full rate. Of course, they will give a refund when one registers at the park and presents a current senior pass. Clever of the state to use our money for the duration. It's called cash flow.

I got one, too, and will call and fix mine, but it is kind of nuts. They are the ones who told me to do it when I inquired in 2019! I guess a new policy, which really is not a fair policy. I'll fix it, then I'll send some emails complaining about it. (I wouldn't mind turning 61 again but I don't think it is likely to happen.)

You should call ASAP as the clerks are going to be swamped with a storm of calls and complaints. (Not to mention the extra burden this places on the park personnel having to refund all these fees.)

Yes, it is really ridiculous. I couldn't call today (not sure how late they can take calls) but will try early tomorrow. I'm sorry for whoever else gets stuck with this.
