A tough day

Hello Escape Forum Folks
Yesterday started out well enough. Rita and I spent the morning working outside. It got pretty hot about lunchtime. Rita announced she’d like to visit the Amish grocery store in Kalona, Iowa. We buy our staples there and it’s a nice drive in the country. $94 later we got back home and pulled the mail from the box. A heavy padded envelope was there and as a I turned it over I saw that it was from a fellow Escapee. It felt like a T shirt. I opened it and it was a tee shirt from the Potosi Brewery in S.W. Wisconsin It was from Steve Dunham, frequent poster and Escape 21 owner. There was a card included. It was in his wife Linda’s handwriting. I read the card. That’s when I learned Steve had passed on June 13, 2021 of a massive stroke. To put it mildly, I was shocked. I communicated with him often and his last note was about his Iowa vacation of two weeks in mid May. He had stayed on my recommendation in a southern Iowa park called Lacey-Keosauqua. He had visited the Amish grocery store at Cantril where he wondered with humor if he’d have enough money to cover his purchases. He enjoyed himself. For those of you who did not know, Steve Dunham was his screen name and his given name was Steve Steingruebl. Steve’s wife Linda of 50 years wrote that it would be helpful to her if I’d announce his passing on the forum. PM me if you’d like to send Linda a card and I’ll get her address for you. I could write much more but that’s enough. I feel bad because I came to know Steve and Linda and that era has ended. I like being right and I hate being right and my signature became real again yesterday. Rest In Peace, Steve.
Iowa Dave
Steve liked a good cigar and he forgot this one on my picnic table seat at Pikes Peak State Park two years ago. I guess it was like a calling card.

Sad to hear of Steve's passing.
A good lesson to everyone to use your time wisely. No one knows when that time will end.

Oh, I’m so sorry to hear this. Steve gave me a lot of help via PM when I was having electrical problems awhile ago. I’ll miss him on the forum.

Had many sparring matches with Steve, but I still considered him a friend.

Steve always enjoyed serving biscuits and gravy for the Mississippi rally breakfast. He shared much of his skill and knowledge with others. He will be missed.

Steve Dunham!!!

Hi: Iowa Dave... Thanks for letting us know that Steve has gone... camping. He's packed provisions from the Amish store for the trip... not far but just over that hill and across that stream. The fish are biting over there and "Oh look there's a squir...." Alf
