Bumper

It was brought to my attention on this site that rain water can seep into the bumper past the spare tire bolt. As the bumper is a sealed unit, when water gets in, it can't get out. Simply drilling a hole or two in the bottom of the bumper will fix this problem. Not all units will have the spare tire bolt drilled through the bumper such as the dual 6V setup. No other parts of the frame are sealed, so this is not a concern anywhere else.

We have started adding a hole to prevent this problem.

Re: Bumper

Sure enough, I drilled couple of holes in the 5er's bumper, and got wet. Thought would have known better than to be directly under the drill. Later loosened tire mount and applied sealant under bracket and bolt head. Maybe will prevent most moisture from getting in. Rease, thanks for keeping us informed,

Re: Bumper

Even though power drills are double-insulated, I think it would be wise to use a rechargeable drill for this job. Water and 110 volts would be a bad combination.

Re: Bumper

A 110V drill. Aren't those only found in museums now?

Re: Bumper

I finally got around to drilling mine (bumper & frame too) and was surprised to find no water as even just condensation should have provided some.
