Hello Everyone,

Below you will find a copy of the Recall Notice from Fastec Industrial Inc.

To determine if your lock falls within the Recall please check the number stamped on the Black Trailer Key. If it matches one of the following lock numbers then please contact Fastec directly

Nearly 3 million RV door locks recalled

Door lock model 43610

(August 8, 2013) — Fastec Industrial Corp. (FIC) is recalling certain model 43610, 40610, and 44610 door locks manufactured between January 2006 and April 2013 with a keyed paddle handle and deadbolt for use in recreational vehicles. More than 2.8 million RVs are affected by the recall.
It may be possible to remove the key from the lock in a way that potentially jams the deadbolt in locks with certain key codes. If the deadbolt jams, the interior side of the door lock may also jam. A person inside the recreational vehicle at the time will then be locked in and be unable to exit the vehicle without using the emergency exit, increasing the risk of injury.
FIC will notify the original equipment door and RV manufacturers and the consumers of record and instruct them on how to determine whether they have a defective lock. Consumers of record will be sent replacement cylinders with instructions, free of charge. The vehicle manufacturers will notify their consumers. The recall is expected to begin September 10, 2013. Owners may contact FIC at 1-800-837-2505.
Owners also may contact Fastec at 1-800-837-2505 or the NHTSA’s vehicle safety hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153).

Second, the recall includes
any deadbolt lock with one of the WESCO part numbers,

regardless
of the key code, where the key can be removed from the deadbolt cylinder when the
key is in the 9 o’clock position and the deadbolt is engaged. Under normal use and operation,
the keys to the lock should only be able to be removed in the 12 o’clock (neutral) and 3 o’clock

(unlocked) positions.

I assume the list should be read as 304, 307, 308 etc. Is this correct?

That is my assumption, since I have HF 335 and a replacement is on the way.

It never hurts to check

Like a lot of the northern Rockies, this is not a time to be thinking much about hauling our Escape 15B around, but in fact, April is looming and it is time to get out. Reace, thanks for posting the recall notice. We have one of the defective deadbolt cylinders and so have signed up to get a replacement

Only issue I had with the recall, and it's nobody's fault, is that Fastec included an envelope to send the faulty parts and tool back, but it had prepaid US postage. I had to buy Canadian postage. I guess I could have just not returned the items.

I absolutely, postively have respect for a manufacturer that attempts to notify owners (or second, or third, or fourth... owners of their products) of recalls! Doesn't typically happen... too much trouble...

The interesting thing though is the recalls were on 2009 and 2010 locks, why didn't ETI pull all of their inventory. One of the defective ones was on my 2014 unit? I had to remove the door to get inside to remove the lock and then take to a locksmith because the old lock cylinder would not come out. Big PIA for a brand new unit. Finally FASTEC reimbursed me for the locksmith, but not without several phone calls and pictures being sent. They wanted me to fill out all this personal paper work with ssn in order to get reimbursed, I told them it was not necessary and sent them a copy of the IR regulations. They conceded and sent me a check. I still have the old lock and master key, just in case.

We received the replacements, and can get only one of the locks out with the key they sent.

Give them a call. I had same issue and they talked me through it.

That is when I called the lock smith, they came and fixed the problem, something like $75 which I sent to Fastec and they paid.

In hindsight, Fastec or ETI should have sent them out, but we were trying to comply with the manufacturer's and Escape's guidance. I did not know the entire new lock was only $26...

Why would I pay $26 for a new lock instead of getting a new lock cylinder for free under the recall?
Why would Fastec or ETI send out new locks to everybody regardless of whether they qualified for the recall?
Fastec and ETI sent out the recall notice with the lock numbers that qualified and if you did, you made a phone call and the new lock cylinder arrived in the mail along with instructions for replacement.
Pretty simple really.

Unfortunately, mine and several others did not have success in removing the old lock, the master key sent by Fastec did not release my lock. Simple fix, you know that does not exist, like Army intelligence or this won't hurt.
