These came out in 2011. Here's the link to dealers in Washington state. I could not find a distributor list in BC.

Looks like it and an older Dometic model cool MUCH better than the Dometic 8 series - upper 20s to mid 30s at ambient 110F.

Thanks for the link. Didn't really see that much of a difference in the test data. The tester's conclusion says it all:

"The bottom line is that the helium absorption refrigerator provides adequate refrigeration and performs well relative to the hydrogen absorption refrigerator."

Not 'revolutionary' IMHO.

The point is T rated (properly designed) absorption fridges do fine in hot weather.

I was aware that the initial post was dated. I was hoping that someone else would also pursue additional information/testing and draw a logical conclusion.
Now "if only" we could convince Ford's RV Training and Service to test the more efficient Dometic RM8 series for comparison !

Thank you, JAMMAN

If it were the "T" climate class rated one, I'll bet it would do fine.

Well that Atwood news release is three years old. Are there no updated results or evaluations? Silence is deafening.

They're good fridges by all accounts, but not really applicable to the Escape. They only come in 7 CF and 8 CF sizes.

And the price tag... I heard Fourteen to eighteen hundred bucks. There's a deal breaker.

Not cool.

Don't forget to add the sales tax and the shipping. No way that's worth a tray of ice cubes to me.

Got a great ice cube maker in my house. Who doesn't bring along a cooler? Yes I removed the freezer compartment in my perfectly adequate 4.3 and will be adding that baffle, with reflectix, because a hope and a prayer cannot hurt. Maybe also a fan. Good enough for my tipping point.

...let's see now, take a dozen ice cubes, divided into $1650.00... hmm.

It's basically the same price as the Dometic RML8555 6.3 cu ft unit.

Take out the existing inadequate unit and pay for the new one - probably not. (If ETI offered to install it and help with the cost as a replacement I would be VERY interested.)

Get the new one ETI-installed in a new trailer for up to a moderate fee - absolutely. (Not currently possible, but Reace does pay attention to us.)

I agree. Also, the helium technology is a nice advancement, but there's not a lot of difference in the performance of the Atwood and a Tropical climate class Dometic. Its still absorption. What is needed are fridges with the appropriate performance for the climate they will be used in. Hot summers in North America are not compatible with a 'sub-normal' climate fridge.

Can ETI obtain a Tropical class Dometic?

Rossue, why not call and ask ETI. Then we'll all know.
