Photo mock-up and floorplan for new 5.0
This has been a long time coming, but I finally had a chance to figure out the new 5.0!
Here are some of the changes:
The new 5.0 will be based off the 21', so it will be 8" wider than the current 5.0 and 8" longer.
Full 60 x 80 queen bed. Upper bed area will be 5" taller.
6.7 cu. ft. fridge will be standard
56" long kitchen rather than 41"
Larger holding tanks...(not determined yet).
Due to the variety of different truck heights, we will be using tandem spring axles on this unit to allow for easy adjustments.
The photo shows the trailer in the lowered position for mid-size trucks. A 3"-4" lift will provide the extra clearance required for full-size trucks.

I love the proportions. The queen bed, extra height in sleeping area, and the tandem axles.
Looks like a winner for Escape!

Hi: All... I think I had build mares all night. I hope the wider 5.0 won't cause problems with the turning radius for trucks like our 2010 Nissan longbed and hitch set up already in place. Alf

Overall I like the new 5, although I am a bit concerned with the 8" longer and 8" wider, but we will see. I like the interior arrangement, it makes sense, seems a bit more open than the current 5. Can this still be towed by a current Nissan Frontier?
I do not know if the floor plan is fully set, but I have a suggestion. I would switch the fridge and micro cabinet. Given that the interior is more open, I would modify the micro cabinet into a small counter with drawers/or cupboards and have the overhead cabinets extend across to the fridge (microwave is not important to me). On the other side of the trailer, I would also change the vertical bulkhead that supports the overhead cabinet at the end of the counter (near the stove) to a chrome pole (same as at the other end on the counter). There would still have to be a small lip for the counter end, but these changes would let the "lounge area" be more open and accessible.
On a minor note, the floor plan shows a half step, I think this could be a bit dangerous, especially at night, the step should extend all the way across.

I will be cutting a bit off the front corners to help when turning.
The fridge is located near the rear to help with weight balance and the bulkheads are there to support the roof and overhead cabinets, but also support the wall.
I haven't quite nailed down the step configuration yet, but a full step would protrude into the door way a bit. We will see....

This is it! Wow. All we want. Can't wait till it is in production and I can place my order. Dreaming of my options now. Was about to order a 21 or 19, but this has all we will want. Anxious to see the storage.
Will the propane be up front like in the current model?
Also, would it be possible to store things up in that front compartment?
Nice work on this design. It is going to really be a blockbuster

How about putting the front corners the same width apart as the original 5.0, then angling the side walls out toward the full width, with smooth transition (not a sharp bend) to the parallel sides before the end of the over-truck section? This would give almost 90 degree turning for cab-to-hitch distances that allow 90 degrees with an original, and the same turning angle as the original for those with shorter cab-to-hitch distances.
This would reduce free space beside the bed at the front (which I understand people use as the head of the bed), but another adjustment could be to extend the front wall in a rounded shape, having no effect on cab clearance but providing potentially better aerodynamics and space for a bin of whatever people want to have around the bed.
I understand why stick-built and flat-panel trailers are square-nosed boxes, but with moulded construction Escape has an opportunity to build a more optimal design.

Hi: Reace... Thanks for the reply. I was thinking that if the bottom loft step went the full width, that would leave room for a shoe cupboard with a short door on the side, accessible from the outside, below the drawers. Alf

Reace, that looks fantastic. If I am ever to trade up, this layout is looking prime.
I like the cut step idea given the floor plan, makes good sense.
I do like the idea of a pole for roof support too.
For me, I would like to see the dinette narrowed, with a storage bin behind one seat. I does not need to be that big of a table, or as wide of seats for us, and the added storage would be nice. I know you said something about the one in the first 21 not working out quite right, but like in the Bigfoots, I think the idea is great.
