Umbra Mini Hooks

Where do people place umbra mini hooks inside their 21' Escapes? Will Escape install these at orientation?
Thanks

Yes I believe that ETI will still install Umbra hooks at orientation, though contact them to make sure. Ours are installed on the overhead cabinets by the door (2), the wall between the bathroom and the bed (5), drivers side overhead cabinet (3) and the wall above the short stack by the bed we put the new hooks with the tray for holding phones etc. ETI was kind enough to cut a 5 hook Umbra into 2 pieces for us.

Unless they have changed their price and policy, they will for $25C
They did a great job with mine. Very interested in getting them right.

Same here. Escape placed 5 Umbra sections in each of our 21s at orientation. Their charge for installation varies depending on the number of sections installed. They WILL cut long Umbra hooks into smaller sections. I wouldn’t be without them.

Had 2 installed at orientation, 1 small 3 hook with shelf on left side as you come in the door and a 5 hook on the bathroom wall above the bed.

Any chance you could post photos of your Umbra hooks and placement.
Thanks

Unfortunately the trailer is in storage about an hour away. I will try to get pictures, but it probably will be a couple of weeks until I am back there. So let me try to explain where and how the Umbra hooks are placed. Took a a large 8 hook and ETI cut it into a 3 hook piece that is by the door on the upper cabinet. The remaining 5 hook piece is on the dinette wall, drivers side. An 8 hook is on the bed/bathroom wall, about one foot down from the ceiling. Just to let you know that wall is fully reinforced. Finally the tray is placed just below lip of the drawer stack facing the bed,we have an outlet placed there, this way phones can charge .and not be placed on the counter. Hope this helps.

Maybe this is obvious but on new trailer builds walls where you might hang Umbra hooks would be best reinforced. Just struggled to hang two of the 3 hook cubby style with only the thin paneling. Used drywall anchors and some VHB tape and hoping for the best.

We installed two once we returned from picking up our Escape. The first is on the bathroom side wall. There is a support stud running across the wall, so it was easy to screw it into that. The same goes for the drawer stack.

Stud locators work on our builds. I was able to locate and decide which studs I wanted to use and bought umbra hooks that spanned them. If you install them on the upper cabinet ends by the doors, at least on the 2017's they used solid wood there.

And that is why I had ETI install mine at orientation, they know where the reinforcing studs are.

That was my original intention for one of them, but there wasn't enough space. The older trailers with the sliding screen may have less span there across the cabinet ends and the cubby style Umbra hooks don't lend themselves to be cut down.

Escape wouldn't install the 5 hook Umbra unit on the refrigerator wall, but did put it on the bathroom wall. They cut the remaining 5 hook Umbra into 3 & 2, the 2 on the door end of the kitchen & the 3 on the refrigerator wall.

I'm not sure why they wouldn't do it; I switched the 3 & 5 hook units with no problem.

Umbra in a 5.0

Has anyone installed a 5 hook Umbra in a 5.0 on the wall facing the door, between the bathroom door and the stairs? We would like to put one there, but it seems that the wall is thin panel where the attachment screws would go.

One of mine is there.

Make that 2. I had the wall, #5, reinforced by ETI during the build. You'd have to ask ETI if it is needed if they mount the Umbras for you.

Here's a pic of the 2 long Umbra hooks we mounted on the bath door and adjoining wall. We mounted them with VHB tape, no screws. The tape runs the full length and width of the the rail. They have successfully held up in both our 19' and 17', never tearing the wood-grain paper despite heavy coats, wet towels, bags, etc.

Altogether, we mounted 5 Umbra hook rails in the 19' [sold last September] and will do the same in our new 19' anticipated on 3/23/18.
