I doubt you could go to a campground or any place else with other people around and not have your tag picked up by someone’s phone.

Your tag would have to bee in a very remote location to not be picked by someone’s phone.

For as cheap as they are I just don’t know a down side to having one.
Another dumb question - do you know when/if you are tagged by someone else's phone or are we all part of the tracking system and we don't even realize it?

The only problem with cell phones and these AirTags - you'll be so stressed, you'll forget to leave them at home when you bury your past indulgences.

Just makes it easier for the authorities.

all iphones listen for airtags and forward the pings to Apple. only the owner of a given tag can see where it is.

since my wife and I use Android phones, we've been using Tile. Tile only works with Android users who run the Tile app, which is a much smaller universe than {all iphones}. mostly, they help me find her keys or phone, because i can select whatever she can't find, and make it beep if I'm within 50 feet or so. walking slowly from one end of the house to the other lets me locate the general vicinity.

BTW - here's a great video on the variety, connectivity and costs related to the air tag tracking devices that are currently available.

I've been thinking of keeping one of our old Android phones hidden in the camper (with constant power) and a SIM card for a cheap data-only plan. (Some providers will give you an add-on data SIM -otherwise https://www.usmobile.com/plans has $2/month plus probably another $2 in taxes and fees.)

Then I can use Google's Find My Phone app to find my trailer! Works wherever there's cell service, not relying on other people, and can be useful finding my way back to the trailer boondocked in the desert too.

You don’t know when your phone tags someone else’s air tag it is built into the phones. You can shut it off on your phone if it bothers you. But most folks just don’t worry about it.

Unless you return home with a AirTag that is not registered to you. Than you are suppose to be alerted that you might be being tracked.

Yeah, but right now the tracker thinks I'm in Italy. I'm not

The Internet in general thinks I live in Metairie, Louisiana. Home Depot thinks I live in Dallas. Weather apps think I live in Klamath Falls, Oregon. The weather there can be rough, apparently.

They say one year.

They are common watch batteries found in many stores.

There’s a lot of ways to track electronically, Apple reduced it to an inexpensive tag. Stalkers used cell phones that didn’t notify other devices like an AirTag.

The stuff I find that bothers me is Facebook tracking. When you install their apps on your phone, they invade your browsers so the can find out more about you, and slow down your phone.

How’s the weather in Italy?

I put an AirTag in my Escape. Last week I took it to an RV shop in Pensacola for service. From Apple's "Find My" app I could see where I left the trailer unhitched last week. It sat there over the weekend, then yesterday I saw it was moved to their shop. Late in the day it was moved again to their "done" lot. This morning I got a call to come get it. That's pretty slick imo.

My iPhone 7 didn't support AirTags... when I had to upgrade my phone last week I now can get airtags. One for my trailer, one for my truck and the other two will be on my dogs collars.

I carried a 4 pack of air tags across the country, but still haven’t set them up. I’ll go get them out of the drawer in the trailer and get started. Sheesh!

I bought four...going to put one in the escape. I used them when I was in Greece this summer for luggage, tote bag, etc. It was kinda cool to be able to see where my luggage was when I arrived at an airport.

I have one in my laptop bag and in the trailer and have found it useful.

I have the alert “You’ve left your [item] behind!” which is handy.

It would also be handy to have an alert “Your [item] has left you behind!” but I haven’t seen this. That would be a possible indicator of theft.

It would also be great to get an alert when “[item] has moved”. Now I think we need to remember to check in with the item.
