I'm a geezer and lifting the metal full tanks over the lip in the propane storage bay in Ten Forward is a PITA for me. I smashed the lip the first time I did it. Now it requires both hands and a knee. Kinda like bucking hay. For now, I've decide against the purchase. But next week... next month... next year? Who knows.

Donna, please let us know when the sale is on........

You could always have your steel tanks filled to 16 lbs.
Same amount of gas as Viking, and you'd have four pounds less to lift.

How does it go? "You can take the girl out of the country but not the country from the girl"
My girl wanted no part of town life.

Not many things smell better than a fresh mown hay field. Maybe a fresh plowed field?

Yes, I'll try and remember to check the Viking sales and let y'all know. If my rememberer is correct, it was a Black Friday sale.

It appears that the Viking composite tanks are reinforced with glass fibres, not Kevlar. While some composite pressure vessels use Kevlar, the Viking web site mentions only fiberglass... and from a cost standpoint I wouldn't expect anyone to use Kevlar in such a low-pressure and low-priced application. Not that the fibre really matters...

|
Or, if you have the height available (22.5"), you can use the 22-pound tank. At 14.5 pounds empty, it's still lighter than a steel 20-pound tank, with more capacity. The same considerations of mounting (and more due to the height) would apply, as would the replacement interval.
If anyone is looking for information about composite propane cylinders and runs across the "Ragasco" brand... Viking is the brand name used in North America for cylinders by Hexagon Ragasco.

Find a better place to fill your tanks. Never Blue Rhino, Try UHaul on Marginal Way in Portland or a propane place,.
