Can we please move beyond vBulletin?

I realize migrating to another internet forum software package is a RPITA but dang, compared to all the other forums I belong, the Escape Forum is so antiquated; especially all things attachment related.

Rant over.

Reminds me when I worked for wages. "Nothing is impossible to those that don't have to do it." Not your time and not your money to make the change.

I get it. But curious, maybe a poll would be useful, to get an idea how many would be willing to kick in a $ to help ease the pain: I'm in! With Escape on a 'grow curve' just seems to be the logical next step for this forum.

Remember too that Social Knowledge LLC owns the EscapeForum. We're a tiny fish in a big pond. I think ALL their forums run VBulletin. Unless they all change, doubtful we'd ever change.

I am very satisfied with how the forum works, all parts of it. I don’t need, want or necessarily respect currently available technology. I’d suggest that people who want a change establish their own site and see how that goes.

The forum works very well using Tapatalk. Photos are easy-peasy to upload.

Having said that, I’m willing to pitch in.

This is one of many forums hosted by Social Knowledge. In a thread about the use of vBulletin in FiberglassRV (another Social Knowledge forum, with a related topic and large overlapping membership with this one), the administrator posted this:

It seems reasonable to me to assume that all Social Knowledge forums will move from vBulletin to Xenforo, but that is only an assumption.

Sorry, that didn't link directly to Janet's post as I had intended; this version does.

I'm not a techy kind of guy, so my comment may not be worth much, but compared to the few other sites I visit with some regularity, this one works pretty well. I haven't been everywhere on the site, but I'm slowly learning, and what I'm learning pleases me. There always seems to be someone on line willing to help me over the rough spots.

I f the powers that be determine that a change is in order, I hope they ignore the methods of Microsoft, the IRS and various others by hewing closely to the KISS principle--Keep It Simple, Stupid--and I'll be happy if I can continue to enjoy your company.

I am very satisfied with vBulletin. I know the ins and outs of vBulletin. I don't like change.

Thanks to all the admins that run the site.

Spare any change?

Hi: All... The only constant in life is "Change". Personally I dislike it... but the alternative sucks!!! Getting ready for a big change. Alf

If you want to try some a really out of date & difficult to use forum application, drop over to the Escapees RV Network Forum, and try adding a link or change the color to text.

When I read a post that is laced with computer jargon , I stop reading and go on to something else. . I have enough computer knowledge to accomplish what I need to accomplish , if I need more information, I ask my grand kids
In all honesty I would rather read / listen to Iowa Dave’ tell tales about Iowa , fishing , hunting , farming , birding , nature or his perspective on life
Those subjects I find interesting , useful and in some cases morally uplifting.

The plan is to leave vBulletin behind and move to xenforo. We have held at this version of vBulletin for some time now to make the transition easier but I imagine it will still be some adjustment. I'll post updates as we get closer to that conversion.
