iPhone App

I have used the FGRV iPhone app with some regularity and find it quite good. Any plans to launch a similar app for the Escape Forum?

Or better yet, an Android App.
I have Tapatalk installed, but I believe the forum has to be able to use it somehow to work. I know it does on a few other forums I visits.

That would be great. I use the FGRV one all the time.

I also would love a iPhone app.

The new iPhone 5 allows any web page to appear as an app on the Home Screen. You just:
Tap 'Safari' on Home Screen...then...
Tap new page...then...
Type in web address.

At the bottom of the screen an icon of an arrow coming out of a box is shown.
Tap that icon,
Then tap 'Add to Home Screen'
Done!
Is this feature not available on older iPhones?

Yes this works, but it puts you right back in Safari, much like a home page. Not a bad thing, just not an app.

This is what I did with google maps after apple put their own map app up in its place with the ios change last fall. Then google came out with their own app, much better than going to a safari page.

That's strange my iPhone doesn't seem to do that at all!
i don't see how it's different from an app (on my phone).

Opening a page in Safari is different than starting an app. Or at least it can/should be. They usually have different security protocols and can have much different functionality.

Good apps run faster and can have special functions not available to an online web page. A well made app can have info stored within that makes it useful even if you are offline.

Simply posting to a forum... might not see that much difference from a web page.

I use the fiberglassrv app often and really like the marketplace ads and how they deal with posted photos. They are really easy to view from within the app.

I think I know what you're saying LeonardS but so far I'm unable to distinguish any difference in the Escape Forum on my iPhone and the Escape Forum on my computer. In neither case does it seem that the web page is opening in Safari. Photos etc. pop up fast. At least until the forum gets an app, the one touch from my home screen is fast and easy.

I have an Android phone, but the experience is much like what LeonardS describes. Using the app seems to simplify the experience of visiting a site over using a browser, and makes it much easier to navigate and view things. There are obviously a few things that get trimmed out in the app to have it function as it does on a phone, but I am glad to forgo these things for the ease of use.

I would be happy just to be able to get of the "Recent Discussions" box on the right side. It can be somewhat useful, but in general just unnecessarily restricts the real content to a fraction of the screen width. That's bad enough on a typical computer, but on a tablet it is ridiculous.

I have used the FGRV app - it is so limited that I don't bother with it on my tablet. It might be different on a "phone" sized screen.

I only use the Recent Discussions box myself. Click on the subject and it takes me to the first unread post on that topic.
I never go to Forums or New Posts.

On the other hand, I don't have data on my iPhone so I can't / don't do much with apps and nobody calls me, and I don't call anybody, so I'm living in a perfect world.

Sure, but that annoying Recent Discussions box is still there, taking up space.

In FiberglassRV, which uses the same software, the User Control Panel includes an option to "Turn off Right Column", in which I selected "Yes", which gets rid of this space-waster. This forum doesn't offer that option.
