New posts since last visit

My "new posts" are currently set to new since last visit. Since I can't always get through all of the new posts in one visit, I would like to have mine set to "not marked as read until I have actually read them" as described in the help as quoted below. This is the way the forum used to be set up and I much preferred it. Is this an individual setting that I can change only for myself or must the entire forum be set up the same way?

"The administrator can also set up the forums so that each thread you read is marked in the database. If this option is set, then new threads (or threads with new posts) will not be marked as read until you have actually read them."

I just left a few unread, went out, came back in an clicked on "New Posts' and the ones I had not clicked on yet were still highlighted with the little triangles. I wonder why the difference.

OK, I'm having an interesting problem. Windows 10 updated twice today and I had to resign into everything I was doing including the forum. Now every time I click on recent posts I go to the beginning instead of the most recent post. Frustrating to say the least. I also seem to get random ads within several of the posts themselves. Is that a new feature to help pay for the forum? I can live with that if that happens to be the reason . If the there is anything I can do to change where I land please let me know. Thanks

Am finding sometimes the full list is still their, and sometimes only the new since last visit. Have also been wondering if there is some setting I should look at, or a matter of how much time has passed, or...?

thanks for any suggestions, Susan

Working properly now.

OK, don't know what happened but everything seems to be in good working order on my end. The in post ads are gone and when I hit on the link for a new post I go to the most current ones I hadn't read.

If this is the work of the forum Moderators, I thank you. If it is the work of the internet fairy, I'll take it.

Just today, (Fri.-Sept.23-0830 hr ±) I am experiencing similar unusual behavior. I logged on a while ago, and have been working my way up through the bold face type unread posts. Having spent some time on one of the discussions, I then moved on up the list. Now they all show as having been read.
My guess: the forum's host, vbulletin, is having issues, or doing modifications.
But since I have no evidence at all, let alone evidence-to-the-contrary, I want to blame Microsoft!

Everything is working as per normal for me. Not sure what it could be.

Though on FGRV, for some reason I am having the same troubles Steven is, in that when I click on the bold links under "Recent Discussions", it just takes me to the first post, not the first unread one.

I use the "Recent Discussions" box to access posts. I've had a couple occasions here where, for no reason, all threads suddenly indicate they have been read.
I've also found, by scrolling back in a thread, that there are unread posts, so I wasn't taken to the first unread.

Hi: gbaglo... I've had all of the above some of the time, but not the sum of the above, all of the time!!! Then again I only read some of the posts all of the time. The rest of the time is "Happy hour". Alf

So then, our conclusion to be drawn from this is: Happy hour-some of the time, leads to-happy, all of the time.

I think I'm good with that, most all the time.

I use the Recent Discussions list, because I can't get rid of it (unlike FiberglassRV, which is run by the same provider and on the same software), and the problem I see with it occurs when a session is left logged in for a while, then timed out: topics which I had not read are still marked read.

The problem of going to the last post, instead of last unread, occurs on threads which I have not read at all yet.

Indications of which sub-forums contain unread posts are routinely incorrect, making that feature nearly useless. FiberglassRV works much better in this respect.

None of this is related to management of cookies by my computer, as it treats FiberglassRV and EscapeForum the same, but the forums behave differently.

You can have mine, Alf. I just delete them at the end of each session.
