We seem to have had a number of threads recently that have gone off the rails and had to be closed. This was mostly due to political arguments of one form or another.

It was pointed out to me very astutely by a fellow moderator that this may be taking place because some folks have no other social media accounts and are frustrated. Thus, the occasional political or otherwise inappropriate post.

If this is indeed the case, here is a suggestion: sign up for social media platforms or forums where arguing all the controversial topics like politics and religion isn't going to have such a negative effect. Then, rant away on those platforms. Let loose. Vent as you will. Just don't do it here. It will make for a much better experience for all here, and the moderator team will thank you for it.

I don't think you can separate politics ( policies ) from life ( camping ). One affects the other. As long as it's a campfire, not a flame war, it shouldn't be a problem.

While I agree that the aspects of life don't fall very neatly into separable categories, a political discussion can be very negative without any open "flaming". Lots of things get said which are offensive to other members, either because the poster doesn't understand the situation of another member, or because they simply disagree.

In any case, the forum rules include:
Quote:
Discussions about politics, religion and weaponry will be closed or removed.
and the moderators' guidance determines what is acceptable.

I love that this forum is informative, clean, and fun - and that disparaging comments toward individuals or regarding political or religious views- are not okay here. Thanks for that!

Civility and a dash of good humor added to information related directly to Escaping is all I need or want from this site!

I thought I was pointing out that you can have a discussion without it being an argument, but apparently not.

This forum is too easy to troll. Baglo is a standup guy. And with that, I retire.

The bottom line is no one is required to respond to any post, even if you're quoted. If you can't be nice, scroll along. Kindness counts!

Took me a while to learn and understand ,but Glenn has a neat way of looking at things and he has a big heart . Sometimes we need someone to point out things we aren’t seeing . Pat

I agree, even though I don’t always agree with Glenn! He can sometimes be perceived as posting unhelpful or sarcastic comments. I have personally taken him to task on occasion for it, but with no animosity intended. Yet in most situations, he demonstrates that he is sincerely attempting to be helpful and sincere. I believe that he often expresses strong opinions based sometimes on his own personal experiences and that sometimes the perceptions of his posts are somewhat misunderstood or jaded. But hey, we all have opinions based on personal experiences which range from mild to rabid on any given issue. And on a number of occasions I have seen him “back off,” which, to me, is an indication that he realizes/understands an opinion differing from his own is also valid. I met Glenn a few years ago in Osoyoos and he is an upright guy.

And may he stay upright. Horizontal is not desirable in the current conditions.

I think rbryan4 is right about recent topics going off the rails. This site is one of three I've found where members share friendly advice but some of the critques seem unhelpful lately. Unfiendly posts about others have been on the rise too IMO, YMMV....

I've learned quite a few things about my 5.0.

Hopefully topics of mods and camping pics (these are my favorite posts) will pick up again with warmer weather. :-)

One quick question - “no. 4”. Where’s the Report button? I have no idea how to reach the site team if I needed to.
