I've figured it out.
All posts in all threads, even old ones, show the current number of posts, which is the same at any point in time.

Yup, and if you change your name, that change is reflected across all your posts, including the past ones.

'How do you change your name? I know you can change the first names part but I thought the logon name like tractors1 was not changeable.
