Owner's Map Reloaded
I have reloaded the Owner's Map from a backup. Someone deleted the entire data layer - it had all the info on it.
If you made changes recently please check them and remake them if necessary.

Now I sure don't want to be the one messing up the map. That said, would any one be willing to put us on the map for me? Some one more techie then I am...

Done.
I used the trailer and tow vehicle descriptions from your profile. I placed the marker in the middle of the intersection of highways 2A and 53, since many people do not want to show their precise location... and I don't know yours anyway.

The map description says
Quote:
In the Model field, put in the number of your model (21 for a 21' Escape, 19 for 19' Escape, etc.) The marker colors will change based on your entry in the model column after you save it.
|
When I added Marry's marker it defaulted to red, and did not change to teal when I saved it, or saved it again. I manually set the colour.
I note that although the descriptions says to use (for instance) "19" for a 19 Foot Escape, they are generally stored as "19.0", suggesting a data export and re-import with the Model attribute as a floating-point value. I changed Marry's entry from "19" to "19.0", but that didn't automate the colour selection.
Not complaining - just noting for anyone interested in the map design.

The map was altered more than I realized. I have the colors working correctly. Someone has changed the models so now all are xx.0. I will try and fix this later today, but for now if you add someone, please enter the trailer as 21.0 for a 21 - no feet, no A B, etc.
Thanks.

Once again I will make the case that we need one person (or maybe a team) who has access to edit the map. This would mean new owner's wanting to be on there would have to submit their info to the team for entry. I am not certain how this could be done, but would be willing to pitch in to help if needed.

I agree that having a map which anyone and everyone can edit is asking for problems. I do not believe that people are deliberately messing it up (although that could happen). I think that the problem is that many people are like me and if they don't know how to do something, they will play around with it in an attempt to get it to work. Sometimes this approach can lead to success , but other times, that technique ends up messing things up quite badly. (You should see my latest repair on a bicycle in my garage ). In any case, it may be better to have a password protected map with one or a few people assigned the task of making periodic updates to it. There could be a thread (or a PM box) specifically for the map where people can post the details that they want shown on the map.

There have been less than 10 map updates since March. I am willing to do the editing, and can add a couple others as backup.
I am also looking into using some new features to make the map updates more controllable.
BUT I messed up - I changed the permissions in the wrong order. The owner has already (THANKS!!!) corrected this for me.
I do not believe anyone has messed the map up on purpose. And it is often not obvious what all you have changed.

I agree that no one is messing up the map intentionally. This particular software is very prone to problems, because it is difficult to try anything without unintentionally saving the result.
Doug, I can be a backup editor if you would like.

I have just done a major map cleanup.
ETI is now black pin.
Models are: 13, 15, 17, 19, 21, 5.0 and Someday - ONLY (This can be changed to differentiate 5.0, 5.0TA, 17A, 17B, etc. but I would rather not as there will be a lot of old entries to update.)
Moved the following from the middle of the Pacific Ocean:
Steve & Margarita: Escondido
Don & Teresa, 2015 17A: Off the coast of California - where should you be
Bret & Ellen Tresidder: off the coast of Oregon - where should you be

Escape map
It must be Monday. I have disappeared from the map and don't remember how to put myself back on. I do not see a search bar on the map. Windows 7 PC.

Just FYI, when icons are very close together, they can overlap. I can see a sliver of my icon behind NotsobigAl.

Several months ago I got a private message from Doug offering to put us on the map. I didn't want to mess with it for the obvious reasons and I never did thank him. Thanks Doug for putting us on and taking care of the map. Loren
