Posting photos

I have been trying to post some photos tonight, but when I preview the message they are rotated 90 or 180 degrees, even though they are right side up on my lap top. I tried rotating them on the laptop, but found that I also have to rename them (apparently the server caches a copy of the original file you upload, and doesn't replace it when you upload them again). however, even then some photos, particularly in portrait mode, are rotated 90 degrees.

Any hints on how to make sure the photos are right side up?

This is usually caused by taking photos with an iPhone or other phone in rotated (landscape) mode. The phone actually stores the photos in the rotated state but when you view them on the phone or a PC, the image displays normally. Thats because part of the photo file contains metadata that "corrects" the image by displaying it as you took it. Forums that use vbulletin (like the Escape Forum) don't use the metadata-- it's ignored. So, the image displays rotated 90 degrees - which is it's actual state.

For images that are rotated, you could try editing them on a PC by rotating them the opposite direction 90 degrees, saving them that way, then uploading them to the forum again.

That is exactly the situation. I am going to import them into iPhoto, rotate them, then export them and give that a try.
