tips on using scoop method for backing into sites
There may be a better forum for posting this question but here goes. I am still practicing the "scoop" method for approaching a driveway/campsite and setting up for backing up. I clearly have not mastered the manevuer yet. Key seems to be "kissing" the site and then knowing when to exactly scoop back out toward the street. I looked at the one video on you Tube ,( seems to only one!) which illustrates the method with a toy car and TT. Not that useful for me! Any thoughts Escape community?

Valid advice
I don't have a direct suggestion or response to your query, but I would say...GO SLOW, very SLOW, and get out often to see your progress. Some use helper guides (wife, others) but everything is done in reverse, including the mirrors and cameras(if you have) and turning directions, so I just get out of the vehicle often if it is a touchy back-up. Inch it in. It works.....for me.
And practice makes perfect, or pretty darn good. Lots of practice.

Hand on the bottom of the steering wheel. Check Mirrors. Go Slow. If all else fails pull forward and try again.
Enjoy it, it's part of the campground entertainment. When you're done, grab a drink and share stories with your new neighbors.
Once you get good the fun of it sort of goes away.

I have been on this forum since the day it started and have been towing since my early teens. I have not heard of that either. Could likely just be a regional thing.
Many years ago I drew up the attached drawing on how I reverse into spots like a campground entrance. Maybe someone can make use of it.

That's useful, thanks. In some ways, it looks like setting up for a three-point turn. I'll be learning all this for the first time myself, when our trailer arrives in June.

As mentored above, lots of practice helps a lot. After a business or mall is closed practice in their parking lots using the marked parking spots. This is a great practice place.

Scoop method has been around for years. I know it's popular with the Casita bunch. I learned about it probably 15+ years ago over on the CasitaForum.

Soooo, is it a secret decoder ring thing with Casitas or will you spill the beans?

Close, but not quite a 'scoop'. Got to head toward the site opening, then pull out at an angle. Not always easy, especially with narrow, curving campground roads.
Rember, you turn left to turn trailer right, and vice-versa.

To expand on this.
Hand on the bottom of the steering wheel.
Move your hand in the direction you want to rear of the trailer to go.

Pretty sure I have this down pat. I did have A Class 1 license for quite a while. Reversing a trailer is second nature for me. [emoji6]

Two pieces of advice. First, don’t let it scare you. When I picked up my trailer, it was my first. First campground don’t be afraid of taking a back in site. It can be your first campground or 100th, there will always be a first time. Second, sometimes it pays to go around the loop and start over. Take a breath and start over!

We will all nod our heads when we see someone pull around for another try. And shake our heads when we see someone trying to force the trailer in after having a bad approach.
One of those operations leads to learning, always a good thing, while the other leads to yelling, never a good thing.
And remember the popular t-shirt for sale at rv parks: I’m sorry for things I said while we were backing in the trailer.

Oh, and if you’re at a KOA in Arkansas and the staff offers to help you back in just decline the help. Really, you are better off without that kind of help.
