Trailer Cover for Escape 19

Picking up our 19 this spring and very excited! Wondering if anyone can suggest a good cover. We will be storing it outside in Canada so both weather extremes - heat and snow! We did not love the one offered by Escape but may be the best one out there. Thanks for your help!

I have never covered none of mine, a good wash when needed keeps the exterior looking new....
the joy of fiberglass.

There's been lot's of previous threads about covers. Search is your friend.

Some folks go for relatively expensive covers made from Sunbrella fabric etc. I've had very good service from my lower cost ADCO cover.

Jim....it seems you've hardly kept a rig long enough to require a washing, let alone a covering.

Ron beat me to the send button:
UV in sunlight can "chalk" and degrade the white gel coat over time. It can also embrittle exterior plastic parts and the rubber in tires. I've owned fiberglass sailboats and a a 20 year old Casita and they'd lost any gloss or shine long ago. Both were restored with effort and looked very good again.

Besides UV, leaf litter, tree fruits and bird droppings can and will stain the exterior. I'm in the camp of having a sacrificial layer protecting what I want to keep for a long, long time.

Calmark is a pricey but durable brand. After them, there's scads of other TT cover suppliers.

In Summer, I use a lightweight nylon cover made for a full size Chevy van. Easier on and off. I inherited a heavy oversized winter cover which I use off-season.

Adco is a brand that also comes to mind. There's more. Do a Search on the forum as others have written of their experiences.

We have an E19 and purchased this...
https://www.carcover.com/gold-shield...feet-long.html

The length is a good fit, but it was rather wide, so I folded it in half lengthwise along the top center seam, measured in 10" from the center and sewed a second seam along the length of the top panel, removing a total of 20" from the width of the cover all along the top.

When I came to the seams where the top panel meets the front and back panels I just folded the extra fabric from the front and back panels into a 10" pleat and sewed it in place.

This alteration makes the zipper panels line up much better with the door so it's easier to get into the camper when the cover is on.

It's a great fit now. ;-)

wax it good (mine has a polymer sealant aka polycoat), either park it under a elevated carport or out in the open away from trees (to keep the pollen leaves and acorns and bird doo off the roof), and give it a quick hose brush a couple times a year to knock the dust off. when you come back from a road trip, wash it, and it should be good for a long time.

I hired a boat detailer to do the heavy clean and polycoat. its so much easier to clean now, most of the time, I just use a brush and fine spray nozzle, wet a panel, brush it down, rinse it off, move on. if you missed any spots on the first pass, hit them on a 2nd pass. only if it got a lot of road debris do I break out the bucket half full of warm water with a dollop of carwash, and a shag washing mit (or a sponge mop) with hose spray before/after on each panel.

After going without a cover on our 19 for its first couple winters, I decided to cover it this year, even though going without and relying on a good coat of wax seemed to be doing just fine. This is the cover I got: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B072MRYFPL...roduct_details and here is a pic of it on the trailer. The fit is fairly snug so I am not concerned about chafing and the zippers align well with door. It wasn't particulary difficult for the two of us putting it on though getting the correct orientation was initially a bit of a challenge.

We have the single solar panel with twin 6v batteries and in past winters the panel consistently kept the batteries at 100%. With the cover and this snowfall they were at 90%. Not concerning, and not surprising, but it is a difference and I plan to watch more closely. I expect the snow is more of a factor than the cover. We'll see.

I hope the cover reduces my cleaning chores this spring and that it helps provide a bit of UV protection.

Yes it does, but be careful as the cover comes in 3 different sizes. The size for a 19 is Model 3, which is said to fit molded fiberglass trailers 13' 1" - 16' long. That's body length and not overall length. Here's a picture of the box it came in (note the model designation in the lower right hand corner).

I realize this may not be the most durable of covers. I am using to get some experience and decide if I need and will use something more permanent.

We also have the Classic Accessory model trailer cover. The cover is made pretty well and not too expensive, but you need to be careful of any sharp edges when putting on or taking off, especially around the solar panel or make foam corners. We live in Southern California and have always cover our fiberglass trailers due to the intense summertime sun.

I bought a CalMark (made in California) for our new 2020 19E. Pricey but will last for a long time. The one for my 06 Casita lasted until 2018 (I was 2nd owner). Bought an Adco for it off of Amazon to cover it up until we sold it. That Adco didn't last more than 6 months. I get some pretty good sun, no carport so I keep it covered when not in use.

What did you do to prevent moisture on the inside?

I'm putting on my Adco this afternoon. It'll be it's 8th season. Still sound and in good condition.

Not sure what you mean about moisture but the Adco isn't completely waterproof and fine particles can find their way through. I use a thin film of painters dropsheet, comes in a roll 9'x50', against the roof and overhang on the ends. Keeps the roof spotless and dry.

Most folks use a moisture absorbing substance, I use two light bulbs in tomato juice cans, whatever works and depends on the area. Window are cracked open.
