Windw crank replacement

One of my frameless window cranks got damaged (E21C). Went to Escape for replacement, Was advised that Lippert supplies the window crank (model #236887 a 7" operator). Contacted Lippert and advised they no longer manufacture the 7" crank, only a 4" crank at $50. Advised Escape and they contacted Lippert and were told the same.

Have asked Escape what options are available and no word yet. So going out to you all to see if anyone has a solution. What happened to mine was that at the end of the crank rods there is like a black ring that rides back in forth in the window track. That black ring has broken off so there is nothing to hold the crank arms in the window track (hope that all make sense).

Window crank

Just got this message from Escape":

Being that Lippert has stopped manufacturing the 7” window crank arms, 4” ones will need to be used as a replacement. The 4” ones will not have a plastic spacer between the two arms and will open similarly as advised by Lippert.

I wonder why this change was made. On the one with the plastic spacer you can do a mod by cutting the spacer in half allowing the windows to open twice as far as the do from the factory.

Are you saying that the opening is limited to 4" vs 7" because of the smaller crank?

Apparently using the 4 inch crank you remove the spacer that is normally in the window track for the 7 inch crank. With a spacer removed the window should open as normal but I’ll know more once I receive the part and replace it

I broke both of the little black sliders off one of my windows. I purchased 3 rivets from Lippert for $3+ each and shipping $13 or so. Total of close to $24 for 3 rivets. If the crank is $50 I would go with that. But shipping might be another $50 considering 3 rivets were $13.

The thing is, my springy ends that the black plastic slider attaches to were kinda bent when I broke the rivets. It was a pain in the ass straightening them. If yours are bent too, then that is another reason to buy the whole crank instead of a rivet to reattach the slider.

Lippert also told me the 4" would open about the same.

I went ahead and ordered the new crank. Shipping was only $8.00. The old one is still somewhat working, but leaving on a trip in August and figured I would have a replacement on hand in cas the original one bites the dust.

I bent the original one when I accidentally closed the awning while the window was partially open - stupid mistake which I seem to do more often these days! I was able to also bend it back, but has never been quite the same.
