Another Escape on the way!

We did it. We placed our order today for a 21', with May delivery.

It has taken us quite a while to decide what type of RV we needed, but I think we have made the right choice. After using tent trailers for the past 10-12 years it was time to move up. We are nearing retirement and plan to do more traveling around North America in the coming years.

Everything kind of crystallized in the last couple of weeks. First, we visited the Chilliwack showroom and looked at the 19'. We liked it a lot, the only real issue was the bed position - at our age we seem to get up at least once a night to pee and climbing over your partner is problematic. Then we crossed the floor and stepped into the 21'. Wow, it seemed so spacious; 4" of width and 20" of length make a surprising difference. Extra counter space, bigger bathroom, rear dinette, longitudinal bed (albeit a bit narrower). We were smitten.

But just to be sure we went down the road to Abbotsford where the fall RV show was on. The only RVs we saw with comparable quality were the Bigfoots and some class B Sprinters. Yikes! The prices were astounding. The lower quality of most of the stick-built trailers however was very evident, you could tell they had been built as quickly and cheaply as possible. They had some neat features, but how long would they last? We then thought about buying a used trailer and using that for a couple of years before getting an Escape but then gave our heads a shake. "Why wait, when we know what we want"?

So now we will be working on our build sheet and thinking about options. There are so many threads on here that will be very helpful. Thanks in advance to all those who have shared their experiences and wisdom. Let the adventure begin!

Welcome to the Escapee-to-be club and to the forum. You will have so much fun planning your new trailer and figuring out which option to add (or not to add). As you have many years of experience camping, you'll have a much easier time figuring out your must-haves as opposed to your maybe-nice-to haves.

Again, welcome!

Paul and Janet, a hearty congratulations! I think you made the right choice too.

Seems like only recently we were going through the same process, even though it was 3 years ago.

For those who are debating which model to get, there's no substitute for touring them in person, as Paul and Janet's post demonstrates.

Amen to that. I must have spent more than an hour over four years ago going back and forth between a 17A and a 15A (no longer offered) trying to decide. I finally decided which trailer was the right one for me and haven't regretted my decision since. Spend the time...it's worth it just to be sure.
