Covering foam insulation on bottom of new trailer

Hi,

I've just put down a deposit for a new Escape 19. Being in Alaska, we do plan to get the heating plates and foam installed. When I looked at a similar trailer here in Alaska before putting down the deposit, it was noteworthy that the foam was rather pitted from gravel strikes.

I saw on this forum that someone was going to cover their foam with a rubberized material, but there was no follow-up about how well that worked. What I was wondering was whether anyone had a good solution to protect the foam from road hazards, thinking that the time to do it might be right when the new trailer leaves the factory?

If someone has a great strategy for protecting the foam, I'd love to hear it.

The spray foam under my 2015 5.0TA was painted black at the factory.

I occasionally get chips in it from rocks and it seems birds peck at it, making holes like woodpeckers do it trees. Ive also had to trim away a bit of the foam to do some suspension work.

In all those cases, if there is just a small amount of missing foam I spray over it with rocker guard or rubberized undercoating. I find those two products cure much harder than plain paint and I haven't noticed them chipping again.

If the damage to the foam is a bit more extensive, like my trimming or bird damage, when I have an open can of spray foam at home I'll fill the missing foam under the trailer, let it cure and then paint it with rocker guard.

The rocker guard or rubberized undercoating don't adversely interact with the paint that is already there. You may find one of those to be a good thing to try on your spray foam.

Thanks. Those sound like good solutions. I already have birds pecking at the foam on the side of my house foundation here and am used to having to fix those spots. Maybe I should try the same rocker guard on that!
